So, have you been beat into submission?
Well, if people actually respond to this post, I'll try to convince Scooby that this BLOG deserves to survive. Ok, that's not exactly true, but is one of the facts. Me, I've mostly been beat into submission. I guess that I'm just so tired of the BS that we've put up with for so long. Georgie really does not have a clue as to what is actually going on, and really never should have been put in a ULM position (don't get me wrong, he's a GREAT physicistst, but a lously manager. In-so-far-as our current management goes, they're going to have to kill or at least seriously hurt someone before they realize what they are doing - but no one will admit to that (dead or not). Yes, I'm VERY happy that I still have a job. This BLOG is our only outlet - please support it. It is Scooby's BLOG and we need to support him/her. I'm sure that ULM does look at this BLOG and you as the reader have a chance to post with no worries about reprucussions. We will protect your anonimity - we won't evne publish your IP adress unlike the LANL BLOG - we just want to share very inportant information.

Oh wow, I hope you and Scooby aren't thinking of shutting down the blog. I'm one of the ones who was handed "walking papers."
We (I include my family... this act didn't just affect one individual) are still in shock, but I can't afford to sit and mope (well, I'm doing that, sure, but also looking for a job). All blogs have their "ups and downs." It could be that folks--those inside and outside the fences--are just trying to regroup. Give it time.
I, for one, appreciate all the info Scooby and you all put out there. I read all the posts and comments. I don't work there anymore, but that doesn't mean I don't care. The Lab *was* a big part of my life and I still have friends there. I worry about what will happen to them. (I'm worried about myself and my family as well, of course!)
Keep up the good work, and like I said, please give it some time if you're seriously thinking about turning off the lights.
I'm not sure what "publish your IP adress unlike the LANL BLOG" is about, but my best guess is that it refers to the stats available in the blog's hit counters.
I could have chosen to keep this data to myself. I didn't. Everyone can see all the data I see and it has been that way since day one. The only thing I didn't disclose for the first year was my name.
If anyone was unaware of these stats I encourage them to click on the hit counters and view them. If what you see concerns you then you have a few options. Perhaps the simplest is to use AOL. If you are at all computer savvy you might want to try Tor. It's free and it works. And finally, you could choose not to visit the LANL blog at all. If so, we will miss your contributions and you will be missing a blog that I believe is every bit as good as this one.

George's lack of skills as a manager has always been obvious, and sadly is probably the reason he was selected to this position at this time. Can't change that easily now, so nee to determine what can be done with the situation, and don't get beaten down. The direction is not clear, and there seems to be a lot of docile people at the lab at this point. Not sure what it will take, but must try something to save the lab, so must keep thinking and talking. This blog is the only talking going on, but the interest appears low.
Just thought I would let you know that someone actually read your post. I hope the blog survives because it gives us outsiders a peak at what is happening back on the other side. George escorted me out, but did not beat me. I am afraid you are correct the BS will not go away, it will only increase in severity until the Gestapo comes for you. If you are lucky you will discover another opportunity outside the lab and escape prior to the ultimate demise. Good luck and keep writing it lowers stress.
It seems like this blog is not as popular as it once was. This blog is a great way for current and former employees to hear about what is happening at LLNL. Thanks to Scooby for taking the time to run it. You are doing a great job.
Although I am one of the people that was unfairly laid off on May 22 and I am no longer an employee of Livermore Lab, I would still like to stay informed, so I hope this blog continues on.
One thing I found out the hard way on May 22 - do not ever, ever trust this new LLNL management. In my opinion it was illegal for them to lay me off.
Thanks Neko and all the commenters for supporting the BLOG.
Yes, I have been beaten into submission too. I am one of those captive TCP1ers who cannot retire now and have to put up with a few more years of abuse.
I am upset because I see us waste more energy and money into making sure LLNS look good to DOE. I see lots of collateral damage the RIF caused: yes, some people needed to go buy many with much needed skills were let go. How in hell you want to attract the best and keep the best George? You are getting rid of many of the best and making it easy for talented people to go work for real companies!
I have not been beaten into submission like the rest of the sheepeople at llnl I and my brothers have been taking fight to ulm every chance we get!
UPTE local 11 LLNL skill crafts
Right on UPTE skilled crafts - keep fighting for what is right. Too many employees at LLNL keep their mouth shut- when they suffer abuse from management they lay down and keep quiet. That is exactly what management wants them to do. I am so glad the skilled crafts are standing up and questioning / confronting management.
The lay off of career workers on May 22 and May 23 was for the most part illegal and it certainly was a very unfair process and needs to be challenged.
SPSE is in the process of gathering information from the employees that got whacked. Many people are hoping a attorney that is experienced in employment law gets involved and a class action lawsuit is filed.
Sorry about that Frank. Now that I read what I wrote, it does sound a bit negative toward your BLOG. It wasn't meant that way.
I keep reading. The more sources of information and help, the better.
No problem neko! It gave me the chance to make clear how things work. I should also mention that only the last 500 visits can be viewed, even by me.
Hey, I love the info. And I don't mind if it is critical of management. What I don't like is the frothing at the mouth borderline crazy stuff that has been common in the past. Which is why I seldom read this BLOG anymore.
Thank you George for that comment.
My career at LLNL is over. But beaten?
HELL NO!
I miss my friends there. I miss doing good work during those days when good work was encouraged and meant something positive.
Got a lot of anger too. At GM and ULM. At people who did not listen and are now suprised. At the US government for unleashing this catastrophe upon us in such a gleeful manner.
But I am not defeated. I'm still alive and enjoying life. Not doing Lab work, but doing things that improve lives none the less.
As for this blog. I enjoy it a lot and appreciate hearing all from all sides - even the extreme ones, so I can make informed opinions.
Keep up the good work folks.
