First and last comment!

Anonymouly contributed: ================================================================================== One comment I’ll make and my money’s on the fact that everyone whoever worked or works for LANL and LLNL will agree. Bechtel, I mean Rechtel, has lived up to their motto and now reputation of _search and destroy_. Never in my now finished career at LLNL have I ever seen a blog or complaints with so many facts of corruption and mismanagement of this magnitude advertised about these facilities, all of which sooner or later is printed in newspapers, journals and magazines as being facts. There was a time when very few people knew of the national labs existence but now they’re well known throughout society but not for their major accomplishments . If LLNS and LANS have done nothing else in the past four to five years they’re proven themselves of being worthy of the National Anal award. It seems that Diane Feinstein was correct during the transition when she said, _show me where this is a cost savings_ and again Diane Feinstein is correct when she said _I think it’s time to stop dumping money in this black hole and use it where it’ll be most beneficial_.

This is utter and complete bunk. LLN and LANL went through numerous scandals under UC. Porn on government computers ring any bells? Missing hard drives? The list goes on and on. The current management and contract are not perfect by any stretch of the imagination but if you're going to sing the praises of LC, please try to do so in a vaguely factual way.

There have been very few (no?) times when either lab has been in the press in the past five years with bad news that was caused by anything other than UC holdovers. Someone has been hitting the bottle a bit too hard.

Right on the money: Thanks for saying what everyone else is scared to do. At least you don't have to worry about being fired anymore.

"LLNS and LANS have done nothing else in the past four to five years they’re proven themselves of being worthy of the National Anal award.

UC was 500% better than LLNS or LANS ever thought about being or ever will be. Period !

SuRa" There have been very few (no?) times when either lab has been in the press in the past five years with bad news that was caused by anything other than UC holdovers. Someone has been hitting the bottle a bit too hard."

Just why do you think that is now? Could it be that we can now pay off any scandal? I thought the point of UC is that they have no monetary incentive to corrupt the process. Now no scandals ever...hmmm, wonder why?

You forgot to mention the last quote was made specifically towards NIF and it's leadership at the highest level.

Rant and rave all you want about the sleazy, corrupt, totally risk averse Becthel-ied for-profit NNSA nuke research labs. Fact is, no one cares any longer how bad things get at our nuclear weapons labs. No one is concern about the decline in science or low morale of the remaining research staff.

The decline has been severe but has further to go until terminal phase at "Rocky Flats II" levels is finally reached. The final collapse is coming, though, and coming fast! What's left will be an empty shell of a research lab filled with hordes of well paid managers and a much smaller "staff" doing nothing of any real importance.

Your analogy’s is correct. It’s been going downhill for at least the last 10 - 14 years at warp factor 10, but then WFC's. All anyone can do under the new ruling cartel is hope their # doesn’t get picked.

This place (LLNS) has become a joke. Fleet service is gone and Medical is next. If you want to make some money open up a real cheap clinic out in town. LLNS will contract with you, if it saves them ca$h.

I was very disappointed with everything Bechtel brought to the LLNS table. They didn't have project managemenet tools, their leadership folks were slow and weak technically.

They were closed minded and determined to make changes for the sake of their egos, even when the changes were counterproductive.

LLNL under UC was much better managed, more creative, less costly, and better for employees than LLNS/LLNL.

My somewhat informed observation (one long one) is that UC is better at things than Bechtel. George Schultz not-withstanding.

Hey, how come everyone is avoiding the elephant in the room .... the story of an AD being fired (aka "resigned") for messing with a female post doc at LLNL?

This is not the first time such things have happened at LLNL, but "Gods" are usually allowed abuse employees and bend the rules!

Why not now?

I dunno. Some of the post docs are such accomplished delights, in the prime of their lives, its an effort to keep ones nature in check.

And if it is reciprocated?

Ou la la.

Perhaps the staff fraternization rules should be loosened.

I dunno.... when I think of postdocs, I think of Amy Farrah Fowler (reference to the show Big Bang Theory for those of you who don't know). On the other hand, some people are turned on by that kind of woman.

With the whole travel-gate announcement, it must have had something to do with the official visit to China or one of the myriad other trips in which exceptions to the cost limits were approved by the guy. And I don't know why anyone would do that, because we live in the modern age, where, "hello!," there is this interesting invention called data mining (or more properly, machine learning) which will show how far-from-norm the spending and approval behavior of any manager compared to other managers. Imagine what you could do by making FOIA requests for certain things, then applying the magic of data mining on those items.

Anyways, I am sure that Tomas has many opportunities from the many contacts he has made over the years. Maybe one of the former-Bell-Labs guys he brought on for a short time to CMS. Maybe one of the solar energy equipment outfits. Maybe he can work for one of NIF's competitors. The sky is the limit. He will be laughing his way to the bank, with a beautiful Amy Farrah Fowler in one hand, and a fistful of cash an stock options in the other. He will be the envy of all of you (admit it, you nerds fancy nerdy girls like Amy Farrah Fowler).

Back on subject please. Does any think Diane Feinstein will do as she suggested this year?

Diane Feinstein is correct when she said _"I think it’s time to stop dumping money in this black hole and use it where it’ll be most beneficial_."
