I feel bad for the people who were "force" into the LIFE program to begin with. Now they have to start over.

People in LIFE were protected by Ed. Now more a level playing field. Play Ball and produce.
Life was gradually gutted well before it was finally killed off, which is why it can be claimed that there will be no loss of jobs.
It only make sense. I suspect more lay-offs to come as gearing down begins.
There are some people who are/were in LIFE who essentially had no choice, with a "gun to their head," their only career choice was to drop their excellent programamtic work to prop LIFE up or gtfo. Luckily there are alot of good people who will land back on their feet. Though they did their job well, everyone knew that they were not personally vested in LIFE. Others... well... the true believers get what they deserve.
Maybe they'll now spend $6B on anti-terrorist research and development as they should have been since 9-11 helping NSA, CIA, FBI, etc. Glad to see LIFE go and looking forward to the down sizing of NIF to about 50% of what it is now.

I wonder if LLNS Health Services has reviewed the number of stress cases, high blood pressure, heart attack, suicides, or other such occurrences in NIF and LIFE over LLNS baseline numbers.
With the holistic health approach, a doctor would not supply a patient with an oxygen tank and send him on his way without telling the patient to lay off the cigarettes too. In other words, the health care provider actively looks at the greater patient environment to find the optimum remedy to address the health issue, and to minimize its reoccurrence.
Another failed Livermore program....Excaliber, Brillant Pebbles, MFTF, NIF, Life. The only programs that have succeeded in are the one's Los Alamos designed for them, W80, W78 LEP, ....
You forgot one other successful LANL program, the one that involved the purchase of camping equipment, picnic tables, a gas grill, custom Ford Mustang modifications, etc. This LANL program was instrumental in removing LLNL and LANL from UC management into a "pay more and get less", "for profit" structure. Yes you had a successful program indeed. Your recent Deputy Director scandal suggests you haven't lost your touch either.

Money from LIFE is probably being moved into more "high foot" campaigns and PR offensives to promote Omar Hurricane.
They still have that cowboy culture, with or without LANS.

You can continue you "ethics discussion" any time you want. If you can discern the difference between that and simple LANL bashing. I doubt it. Your agenda is clear.

There is no proof, it is all perception. LANL was perceived to have problems and that was that.
The mustangs stolen or not are now considered stolen. The CREM lost is or not is now lost. It does not matter if there was one cowboy or no cowboys. There perception is that there are cowboys, there always was cowboys and there will always be cowboys.
And with this you now know why LLNL has failed.

The deputy did nothing wrong and was only playing the game that they all play. In any event it all the problems at the lab are always do to the workers not the managers. A manager did not steal mustangs, a manager did not start a fire, a manager did not lose crem, a manger did not take classified work to a drug den. This all on the worforce.

What a crock. You know, as does everyone else, that none of those things ever happened. Well, JQ took classified documents home, but not to "a drug den." The rest of it is pure BS, and you know it. But you keep bringing it up because you are unable to see reality. How do you think people respond when someone persists in believing and proclaiming something that everyone knows is false? "Mental case."

Well, the proof was enough for the US Attorney and the FBI. I guess Mr. "Perception is Truth" is back. I hope you perceive yourself going somewhere far, far away. Soon. Or maybe someone else will perceive that you are gone. Good enough.
Regardless of all the finger pointing NIF and LIFE funds should be cut as time goes on and this shall result in more RIF's every year from now on until they're down to around 4000 employees. So, who is next on the chopping block?
I don't know who is next in a RIF. I do know this, if you are a senior manager at the center of a DOE IG ethics scandal, you can resign ~2 years after the fact. If you are a non-manager "worker bee", at either lab, better make sure you don't mistakenly have a lab pen in your shirt pocket when you drive through the gate. When ethics are load tested sometimes deluxe hypocrisy floats to the surface. Back to the web ethics course drawing board.

Uh, what milestone or objective has NIF not failed at??
Success! LLNS executive management continues to lead LLNL on to greatness.
NIF is LIFE-less and must now embrace plutonium.

Ain't gonna happen unless some miracle occurs, and only religious people believe in miracles. The quest for ignition has already cost many billions, and no one will spend many more billions chasing after it. They should rename the place, maybe hold a contest throughout the NNSA complex to pick a new one.

Another perspective is that LANL scientists realized early on that laser ICF was a crock of dreck, and bailed out as fast as they gracefully could, killing off L division on the way.
That certainly is "another perspective," but it's about as far from the truth as you could get. The laser weenies at LANL backed losing technology but still tried to compete until they were snuffed out. Sometimes DOE gets it right.

I wish the California Carpetbagers at LANL would quit giving LANL weapon systems to LLNL! Let LLNL play in their NIF sandbox, but get them out of the serious business of the labs -- stewarding the nuclear weapon arsenal.

3:51 pm might have a point if LANL was a competent steward. With LLNL re-engaging with NTS, and not putting all the eggs in the NIF basket, stockpile stewardship might be taken seriously now.
