By Patrick Malone, The New Mexican, Excerpts
Even as the birthplace of the atomic bomb continues to reel from its role in a radiation leak last year that stranded nuclear waste indefinitely at labs throughout the country, U.S. Sen. Tom Udall said Los Alamos National Laboratory remains the nation’s only option for ramped-up production of nuclear weapon triggers.
“As long as we have nuclear weapons, they have to have pits, and Los Alamos does that,” Udall, D-N.M., told The New Mexican on Friday.
“What I hope for is that we have aggressive efforts by our president and by the Senate, and we get nuclear agreements in place where we can reduce the amount of weapons, and we need fewer pits and you don’t have to have the robust kind of facility that some people talk about,” he said.
“If you’re weighing in and saying they’ve made a big mistake and they need to pay for it and there are consequences, I support them,” Udall said.
“It’s pretty clear that Los Alamos’ people, the scientists and others that were working on this, made a mistake. … The big question now is how do we move forward?” Udall said. “How do we make sure we don’t make mistakes like that again?”

What did "scientists" have to with this?

"Have to" What? "do"? "think"? How about using a complete sentence if you want to be understood? Proofread. Proofread. Proofread.
Udall was probably forced to endure the endless saga of Wallace's legendary quest for the Holy Grail of drum farts. After hearing it, he said:
“It’s pretty clear that Los Alamos’ people, the scientists and others that were working on this, made a mistake. "
Of course, taken out of context, you might draw another conclusion from his statement.
I hope Sen. Udall enjoys watching the good paying jobs at LANL slowly leak away out of his state.
The man has no clue what goes on at Los Alamos.
Udall is a partisan political hack, noting more. Just another empty suit in Congress. You get what you vote for.
Udall is clueless, rudderless, and brainless.
Compare a strong, loyal supporter of LANL like the former Sen. Pete Domenici to Tom Udall.
What a change for the worse!
Domenici used to frequently come to Los Alamos to speak to LANL employees. I recall the electricity in the air in the main auditorium just before he spoke. The man was truly articulate and dedicated to the mission and employees. Has Udall ever spoke to Lab employees?
Don't forget that Domenici single-handedly got rid of UC and put in place the LLC model for LANL and LLNL. With friends like that...
