LANS will rule for many years to come, the workforce will suffer as it should and many upper managers will become very very wealthy at the expense of the nation. Please tell me what the downside of this is? - 11/30/2015 9:39 PM

LANS performs a valuable economic service that I think we all need to keep in mind in such discussions... redistribution of wealth.
If it weren't for LANS, how would impoverished people in Espanola and other nearby rural areas get their hands on "lost" tools? - 12/01/2015 11:33 AM

It seems like LANL is pretty empty as of late. Rumor is that something will be known very soon about the contract. - 12/02/2015 7:00 AM

Given the dissatisfaction with the track record of the "pay more get less", low employee morale, for-profit focused, LANSLLNS Contractors, where is the grass roots (employee) formation of bid proposal criteria for the next Contractor? Just wait and hope for the best? Hmm.

I'll run the place for a dollar a year (and the satisfaction of saying "You're Fired" to a few people).

In the absence of baseline contractor expectations, LANL and LLNL employees are completely vulnerable to worse conditions with their next for-profit contractor. Don't wait for the "meteor to enter the atmosphere" to propose expectations or changes to DOE and NNSA.

What? LANS is all set to expand and form an uber LLC when they take over Nevada and Sandia with the very cost efficient Lockheed Martin-Bechtel-UC team.

Rumor is an extension is coming if no other reason than the NNSA is too slow to rebid in the remaining contract period.

LANS will leave but the contract model will stay. The entire complex is under this model. It is over. Done.

What I find funny is that people think LANS is made up of different people than before the change. Probably less than 1% different and exactly the same pool of people getting the lab director and most pad positions. UC still here too.....
Call it UC, LANS, whatever. Nothing will change. - 12/05/2015 9:30 AM

This is partially true in that many of the same people from before the contract where
the same as after however the contract allowed to these people to become disgustingly corrupt so in some since they are different people. An open question is if these people become corrupt under the new system but where always corrupt but get really let themselves go under the new system.

I have heard something like that but there will still be some kind of change in the
current contract for the interim period. There is certain wordings in the contract that states some things must happen if the score is too low. Of course NNSA can do what it wants. One thing is that the contract might be extended but the profit and hence bonuses during the extension period will be rock bottom for LANS and from LANS point of view that is almost like being terminated. - 12/05/2015 9:40 AM

The profit is so little to these companies that is will not effect anything. $30-60M drop in the bucket.

It will not effect the companies but if they cut the bonuses it will effect the management at LANL and hence the culture, so some kind of change is very likely one way or another. LANS has really messed up. - 12/05/2015 8:55 PM

I have read the prime contract through, and I saw nothing like this. Please cite a contract reference. - 12/06/2015 12:08 PM

When is the end for LANS?
Yes, it is over, LANS may get a extension but it will not get the new contract. - 12/07/2015 10:14 PM

Earlier this year (May) NNSA officially start the rebid process and competition for the Sandia contract. This is a major contracting effort by the procurement staff at the NNSA service center in Albuquerque. I really doubt they can handle two big contracting efforts at the same time. So they will have to extend the LANS contract. Once the SNL contract is awarded, they would then move on to the LANL rebid effort.
SNL's contract expires on April 30, 2016. NNSA has extended it until April 30, 2017.
NNSA will definitely take some heat for extending LANS, after taking away contract years - but they will use the Sandia contract procurement as an excuse. - 12/11/2015 6:00 AM

So there is talk that we will know something near Dec 10-11 about the LANL contract
when the official scores come out. There are certain provisions in the contract that should happen if the score is too low.
