Officials at the Department of Justice are considering a proposed amnesty program through which academics could disclose past foreign funding without fear of punishment, The Wall Street Journal reported. Discussion of such an amnesty program comes in the context of a crackdown on researchers accused of hiding funding or affiliations involving Chinese sources. The Justice Department has brought more than a dozen criminal cases since mid-2019 against academics accused of lying about Chinese government funding or affiliations with the Chinese military, with some of those cases resulting in guilty pleas.
Now there is huge sigh or relief for lots of people. I would also bet the all current cases that have been prosecuted in the last 2 years are all going to be dropped.

Amazing. This decision helps China, not the US. What about the Chinese intelligence officers who are brought here posing as students and researchers? Amnesty for them too? There’s an agenda behind this.

By the way, there is no Russian “thousand talents” program that recruits US professors. Russia is also a threat but of a different kind. I believe the FBI opens up a Chinese related counterintelligence case every 10 hours:

This amnesty thing is really suspicious. I suspect that many university administrators have been paid off by the Chinese for years. I suspect that the FBI is starting to uncover this and people are running scared. I don’t think this can simply go away because it involves too many crimes such as espionage, perjury, wire fraud, and tax evasion. It’s funny that the universities think they can simply cut a deal and keep all the money.

Sounds odd to me. All I hear about is Russia. If what you are saying is true why is this issue not in the news. The only thing I am seeing is the Trumps administration has wrongly gone after any scientist who with some tie to China, not understanding how international science works.

I read the NYT, listen to NPR and MSNBC, and few others. I avoid Fox most of talk radio and abruptly stay clear of any kind of podcast.
Fox and independent reporters are deep into what is called fake news. I personally think the latter needs to be banned, or at least have some sort of warning or making that this is not "certified news". Yes we have freedom of press but we need to amend that to define that press must be certified or not be propaganda, else it does not fall into the definition of press and should be regulated. I simply do not understand how someone from a basement can get as many views as CNN, this is very dangerous and needs to stop.

How can you say this person is a troll when mainstream media such as CNN just today on Jan 31 have called for Fox news to be removed from the airways. It may seem like trolling to you but the idea of removing news sources is no longer some fringe idea but it is in fact being pushed but what normally would be considered middle of the road news media.
I don't know if you remember all the mews media coverage of Los Alamos from WHL, the shutdown, to the big fires, culture of theft ect. If you did you would realize how much of it they got wrong, when corrected would make weak attempt to fix and then a year latter repeat the original story, would mix up labs, or just say things that where utterly wrong. Now why would trust them with anything else much less news where they have a clear political agenda.
