UK fusion startup breaks pressure record using giant ‘gun’ machine
British fusion charlatans perform experiments on the Sandia Z machine
Weren't the actual pressure records from relativistic heavy ion colliders? They are comparable to pressures deep within neutron stars, for example, unless I am mistaken.
Responding to 6:57, that’s not the worst part of their scheme. They claim they can put a bubble of DT in plastic, hit it on one side with a flyer plate, and cause the bubble to collapse and get fusion. There’s no symmetry and their energy budget probably only gives them 100 kJ at best. I think they did a test on a gas gun and got 80 neutrons. So combine that reduced pressure relative to ICF with no symmetry and you get…a complete fraud. They won’t publish anything either. Tried talking with a few of their guys at a conference and they were evasive when asked physics questions.
Response to 12:11. It’s not a pressure record. NIF ablation pressures for shock experiments are much higher. They’re talking about a record on the Z machine. Misleading headline.

2 terapascal = 20 megabars. Many 100's of gigabars needed for inertial fusion, so only factor of 10000 to low in pressure, but let's hype it anyway.

I sense some NIF people are feeling a bit insecure.
