I just received my annual TCP-1 letter from LLNS and a summary of the LLNS Pension Plan. Looked in pretty good shape in 2013. About 35% overfunded (funding target attainment percentage = 134.92%). This was a decrease from 2012 where it was 51% overfunded (funding target attainment percentage = 151.59%). They did note that the 2012 change in the law on how liabilities are calculated using interest rates improved the plan's position. Without the change the funding target attainment percentages would have been 118% (2012) and 105% (2013). 2013 assets = $2,057,866,902 2013 liabilities = $1,525,162,784 vs 2012 assets = $1,844,924,947 2012 liabilities = $1,217,043,150 It was also noted that a slightly different calculation method ("fair market value") designed to show a clearer picture of the plan' status as December 31, 2013 had; Assets = $2,403,098,433 Liabilities = $2,068,984,256 Funding ratio = 116.15% Its a closed plan with 3,781 participants. Of that number, 3,151 wer...

Tis true. The banks didn't let their free market principles get in the way of slurping Fed money from a fire hose. Yet modifying mortgages terms, well hey, there's all that paperwork to do and they promise to get to it after the bonus parties.
The banks and the American tax payers owe you NOTHING, you signed on the dotted line for $XXX,XXX and YOU should be heard accountable for making the payment. If you miss one payment you should be thrown in the streets but only after they take you house, your cars, boats, bikes and any funds in the bank to pay what you owe and then your credit should be ruined for at least seven years to the point where not a single lender would talk to you. Oh and ALL of your credit cards should be canceled and not be able to get one for that same seven years. That's called being responsible for what you signed up for. I have no sympathy for freeloader parasite this new world order society seems to be full of. Can't wait until the games over and the rules change for the good instead of this liberal BS CHANGE some fools vote for.
Right on, I too am tired of paying for social program that support the no loads of this country and the world.
???????
Am I missing something here?
Isn't it time to begin thinking about shutting down this blog, too? It's clear that NNSA and LLNS have won the battle. Why continue any longer with this charade? It's a useless effort that amounts to nothing.
For those not interested in quiting.
The blog should never shut down. That's what DOE/LLNS and NNSA want. They don't want the truth of how they operate disclosed to the public or get out to any new hires that may be considering working for LLNL. It would be a crime to allow this place to become one big secret from society or the new work force. It's bad enough this blog is moderated and censored, we can't afford to lose this blog entirely.
Sorry Bud! This BLOG will continue to be moderated (not censored because I don't judge according to my beliefs but according to BLOG rules).
I removed the moderation for a couple of days last year: bad results!
Note to 8:40: The public and the press (and Congress and Dr. Chu and many, many others) don't care about what is happening at LLNL and LANL. That's the bitter truth, but the sooner you accept that truth, the sooner you can get on with your career.
As far as new hires go, given this dreadful economy, the NNSA labs will likely have no problems hiring young, bright staff no matter how badly they decide to treat them.
