BLOG criticism

Anonymously contributed:

Yeah, it's pretty lackadaisical. From experience, not only is posting taking several days, but some posts, that are not particularly controversial, and certainly not abusive, are just being tossed. Some threads whose interest one might think is minimal will show a new post, while others, more current and of interest, show none for many days, then 3 or 4 show up all at once, several days late. I don't know what's going on, but this is no longer much of a useful blog. Oh well... Maybe the administrator needs to rethink whether he really wants to do this.

If you have ideas on how to make this BLOG more useful, I am open to suggestions.
Better yet, can you volunteer some time to assist keeping this blog
alive.
If you can do neither, please stay away. You are under no obligation to visit.
I am not keeping this blog for ratings or recognition. I don't need to impress anybody.
Period.
I appreciate contributors, especially those who make positive ones (There is such a thing as constructive criticism, you know?

scooby - ultimately this blog will be the blog you make it. You said what your are "not" keeping this blog for, but not why you "are" keeping it. That would be useful to know so that interested parties can decide whether to keep checking for timely information they want and need, or give up. Also, it is clear that a blog moderator's own views can strongly influence the trend of postings and even the overall tone of the blog, not to mention steering the intent. I agree constructive criticism is nice, but I submit you haven't given anyone any basis for giving it. And yes, the appearance you give is one of aloofness and indifference to timeliness of postings, which apparently you justify by saying you "don't need to impress anybody.
Period". I don't understand how someone can take on a task, and truly not care how the carrying out of that task is perceived by anyone. "Lackadaisical" is apt.

Hey 9:01 PM:
My response is : read the purpose of the BLOG, on top:

This BLOG is for LLNL present and past employees, friends of LLNL and anyone impacted by the privatization of the Lab to express their opinions and expose the waste, wrongdoing and any kind of injustice against employees and taxpayers by LLNS/DOE/NNSA. The BLOG authors do not have to agree or disagree with any post or comments before publishing them. They serve as impartial moderators.

Sigh...

This blog doesn't really go anywhere; no passion, no continuing conversations (the lifeblood of a meaningful blog), and no real focus on any really important issues. I fear this blog will just fade away as the moderator's lax attitude pervades the threads here. The most important part of a blog (ongoing conversations with timely enough replies to make sense of the thread) are for some reason not considered important by the moderator. What a strange attitude for a blog moderator! I think he is just intending to run an electronic bulletin board, where nobody tries to keep track of the relevance or timeliness of the sticky-notes. Pretty lame for LLNL.

Well, I gotta say, at least scooby is doing it. We have no where else to go for any meaningful LLNL blogging. This blog is it. Like it or not. Anyone else willing to step up to the plate? - Me either...

Well, June 8, 10:38 pm, it's been said before. Lack of competition breeds mediocrity and complacency. Scooby asks for constructive criticism and then ignores it. If all he can think to do is ask for help running the blog, then the blog is certainly doomed. He hopes that his critics will disappear, typical for any failing enterprise. Perhaps he doesn't realize that the people who care enough to want the blog to be better are the people that can actually keep it alive, if he makes that possible. The rest (the ones he apparently values) don't give a flip.

Hey Scooby. Do not acknowledge this critic. I know for a fact that LANS was paying employees (aka moles) to try to shut down the LANL blog by attacking the LANL blog moderators and by any other tactics. Be aware that LANS/LLNS Managers absolutely hate this Blog because it exposes their ineptness, incompetence, greed, and corruptness. It exposes the absolute failure of the LANS/LLNS LLC organization that NNSA established.

hey June 10th 7:20!
I can take constructive criticism.
Just be specific about what you want, not vague and patronizing.
So, you care? Ok. That means you want to help with this BLOG?
Correct?
If you do, then you will be the next co-moderator.
If not, feel free to not visit.

Scooby - I think I and others have been quite specific. Timely posting and the ability to establish an ongoing conversation between posters on the same thread. As for June 11, 5:38 am, he seems quite paranoid. As far as I can see, none of the posters here (with maybe one well-known exception - a former denizen of the LANL blog) have stated any dissatisfaction with negative reporting on LLNS/LANS. That's not even remotely the point. Criticism of the blog operation is not criticism of the content, or existence, of the blog.

Plutonium Shots on NIF.

Tri-Valley Cares needs to be on this if they aren't already. We need to make sure that NNSA and LLNL does not make good on promises to pursue such stupid ideas as doing Plutonium experiments on NIF. The stupidity arises from the fact that a huge population is placed at risk in the short and long term. Why do this kind of experiment in a heavily populated area? Only a moron would push that kind of imbecile area. Do it somewhere else in the god forsaken hills of Los Alamos. Why should the communities in the Bay Area be subjected to such increased risk just because the lab's NIF has failed twice and is trying the Hail Mary pass of doing an SNM experiment just to justify their existence? Those Laser EoS techniques and the people analyzing the raw data are all just BAD anyways. You know what comes next after they do the experiment. They'll figure out that they need larger samples. More risk for the local population. Stop this imbecilic pursuit. They wan...

Trump is to gut the labs.

The budget has a 20% decrease to DOE office of science, 20% cut to NIH. NASA also gets a cut. This will  have a huge negative effect on the lab. Crazy, juts crazy. He also wants to cut NEA and PBS, this may not seem like  a big deal but they get very little money and do great things.

LLNL un-diversity

Actual post from Dec. 15 from one of the streams. This is a real topic. As far as promoting women and minorities even if their qualifications are not as good as the white male scientists, I am all for it. We need diversity at the lab and if that is what it takes, so be it.  Quit your whining. Look around the lab, what do you see? White male geezers. How many African Americans do you see at the lab? Virtually none. LLNL is one of the MOST undiverse places you will see. Face it folks, LLNL is an institution of white male privilege and they don't want to give up their privileged positions. California, a state of majority Hispanics has the "crown jewel" LLNL nestled in the middle of it with very FEW Hispanics at all!
