Actual post from Dec. 15 from one of the streams. This is a real topic. As far as promoting women and minorities even if their qualifications are not as good as the white male scientists, I am all for it. We need diversity at the lab and if that is what it takes, so be it. Quit your whining. Look around the lab, what do you see? White male geezers. How many African Americans do you see at the lab? Virtually none. LLNL is one of the MOST undiverse places you will see. Face it folks, LLNL is an institution of white male privilege and they don't want to give up their privileged positions. California, a state of majority Hispanics has the "crown jewel" LLNL nestled in the middle of it with very FEW Hispanics at all!

This is about science. No one cares.

If you're pissed because LLNL screwed you over, fine. Get angry at the powers that be for contracting out the lab to private entities. I don't blame you for being angry - you all got screwed.
However - don't destroy the lab complex for everyone else. Some people enjoy working at these labs and ARE productive, unlike YOU. Some people go to WORK in the morning, bust their asses, do their jobs, and get value out of that, both for themselves and the American public. Rather than sitting at home and taking pot-shots at the system like a bunch of little bitches.
Poisoning the water for all of DOE (much of it IS good), while you continue to draw a salary from the lab, is hypocritical beyond belief.
If you have something to say, grow some BALLS and say it publicly.
An investigation into Sandia Corp., which operates the Department of Energy’s Sandia National Laboratories, found evidence that the company violated government regulations when federal funds were used in attempts to influence members of congress and government officials for an extension of its noncompetitive contracts.

I hear your point. I personally many outstanding very hard working people at DOE facilities. That being said I think you are very wrong about some of the posters here. The reason some people are angry enough to post on this and other blogs is precisely because they are the ones who are busting their asses and working hard. They do this because it is the right thing to do. I would bet a number of the posters work a hell of lot harder than you ever have, so you are the one the sounds like a sniveling little crying bitch.
I cannot speak for others but it is not DOE that I have the real problem with it is the privatization of the labs. The blog seems to focus on the NNSA labs in general anyways so why are you even raising this point?
But since you asked we can take some cheap but well deserved shots at DOE. All you have to do is visit some other DOE labs and you will hear some very bad things about DOE bureaucracy and management. The biggest complaint that if often repeated is that DOE does not believe that people matter. In other words if you are not part of the bureaucracy than you are expendable and can be replaced at the drop of a hat. I have heard many times that people that go into the DOE bureaucracy are the ones that failed at science and hence do not believe in science or people that do science. There is saying that if you not been able to get into a management position the age of 45 than you have no businesses or use at a DOE lab.
Steve Chu had some harsh words for the life long bureaucrats that infest the DOE complex.
