Is Goldstein just invisible?

Why does no one ever hear anything at all about Goldstein?
We all know that McMillan has been a total and complete failure as a director, and that SNL has an unqualified director that was hand-picked by Moniz, but we never hear much from Goldstein. Is he just invisible?

Goldstein has always been invisible, the guy working behind the scenes. He was a surprising choice for Director, but then there probably weren't many competitors either.

Goldstein is smart, uber smart, he understands the NNSA culture and has long since figured out how to survive in the highly attenuated national lab culture; keep a low profile, don't rock the boat and keep banking that fat paycheck. Way to go Bill, you deserve it!

Goldstein doesn't get anything out of spouting his mouth off. He does his job, he makes informed strategic decision, he doesn't play the usual territorial games that other inferior manager have to play to make it. And I suspect he has a life outside of the lab and hasn't had to sell his soul like others have. He was never a talker to begin with. Don't expect him to change.

This is partially true, however keeping his mouth shut has been a form of selling his soul, at the same time it has also been a way of keeping his sanity and trying to do the best he can in managing a steady decline. Since 2000 the labs have been dying and are now just a bizarre and strange place where only the corrupt, criminal, soulless, dishonest, and utterly desperate thrive. The real talent has for the most part left, perhaps it has only been 5-6% a year but after 15 years we now have the the current so-called workforce, yet, there is minute and silent number left who keep a scant form of fleeting dignity trying to serve the nation. Goldstein may lie somewhere in that dwindling twilight and if this is true amazing that he was chosen director LLNL.

The President of Sandia National Laboratories does not have a Ph.D.: Jill Hruby

Adam Rowen a former manager of the Materials Chemistry Department at Sandia Livermore does not have a Ph.D. either.

The 3 individuals at Sandia are the first ever Vice Presidents without a Ph.D. in Science or Engineering to lead technical divisions at Sandia. A quick search on the internet shows that Adam Rowen went to a school in New Mexico.

Tri-Valley Cares needs to be on this if they aren't already. We need to make sure that NNSA and LLNL does not make good on promises to pursue such stupid ideas as doing Plutonium experiments on NIF. The stupidity arises from the fact that a huge population is placed at risk in the short and long term. Why do this kind of experiment in a heavily populated area? Only a moron would push that kind of imbecile area. Do it somewhere else in the god forsaken hills of Los Alamos. Trump is to gut the labs.

The budget has a 20% decrease to DOE office of science, 20% cut to NIH. NASA also gets a cut. This will  have a huge negative effect on the lab. Crazy, juts crazy. He also wants to cut NEA and PBS, this may not seem like  a big deal but they get very little money and do great things.

LLNL un-diversity

Actual post from Dec. 15 from one of the streams. This is a real topic. As far as promoting women and minorities even if their qualifications are not as good as the white male scientists, I am all for it. We need diversity at the lab and if that is what it takes, so be it.  Quit your whining. Look around the lab, what do you see? White male geezers. How many African Americans do you see at the lab? Virtually none. LLNL is one of the MOST undiverse places you will see. Face it folks, LLNL is an institution of white male privilege and they don't want to give up their privileged positions. California, a state of majority Hispanics has the "crown jewel" LLNL nestled in the middle of it with very FEW Hispanics at all!
