So what happened at NSTEC?
Jautaikis announces he's retiring, the board knights Deeney as the new president, Jautaikis changes his mind because of "unforeseen circumstances", Deeney evaporates, and Holt is named acting president with no mention of Deeney. Were there trips with Chinese postdocs in Deeney's past? Does he not have a PhD after all?

An opportunity for the recently unemployed Ed Moses?
The President of Sandia National Laboratories does not have a Ph.D.: Jill Hruby
Adam Rowen a former manager of the Materials Chemistry Department at Sandia Livermore does not have a Ph.D. either.
The 3 individuals at Sandia are the first ever Vice Presidents without a Ph.D. in Science or Engineering to lead technical divisions at Sandia. A quick search on the internet shows that Adam Rowen went to a school in New Mexico.

Vic Reis said some things about your momma. Just keeping it real.
Inevitably, no matter where it starts, each thread on this forum eventually morphs towards one or more of these three attractors: Ed Moses, Vic Reis saying or not saying things, and senior staff at Sandia not having Ph.D.s. It is remarkable, and might make a good dissertation project for someone. Or maybe a LDRD project.
Perfect observation, but you forgot to mention that the strange attractor vary over time. For example, where have "huntin' an' fishin'" gone off to, or BOHICA? I agree that there is a dissertation in Social Psychology lurking in the archives of this blog and its predecessors.
OMG, a school in New Mexico!!!!
Is Adam the only person from New Mexico that has been hired at a national lab? How could they fall so far to let anyone in from that state?
How many hours of management coursework does every other school in the US require of their PhD candidates?
Deeney is a Cook protégé , and apparently nobody wants that.

Renfro is in Operations now along with Craig Leasure who is the PAD for Operations. They are working with all the outcasts and renegades they tossed over there. It's an easy task for these guys now, all they they to do is ensure all the non-operational facilities (TA-55, WETF, RANT, WCRRF, Area G, etc) remain non-operational.
Craig Leasure...wow just wow, that is one deep thinker, and non-operaional it is and will remain. How on Gods green earth did this guy ever get into national laboratory?
Craig owns a Mac. He is also happy to slit throats. Apparently those two things make him a highly qualified manager by LANS' standards.
I just think it's fitting that Leasure is the Principal Associate Director for Operations. No one has survived in this role and neither will Leasure. Question is: Will he go down before LANS goes down, I hope so. "Leasure the Executioner".
Organ grinder's monkey makes good.
There are a lot of "fluke" managers at LANS, however, Leasure is the biggest fluke of them all. As to how the hell this guy rose to fame and fortune defies all logic and odds of probability. My guess is that he only speaks when Charlie tells him to speak. Speak Igor speak!
Old Model - Mara was Ewok's boy. GQ was Mara's boy. Knapp was GQ's boy. Leasure was Knapp's boy.
Current Model - We're all GQ's boy.

Yep, Adam Rowen definitely doesn't have a Ph.D.
Didn't the Department of Energy order Adam Rowen to cancel the Hawaii trip he booked on government funds?
Former NNSA Feds as lead managers for NNSA sites, like NNSS, Shameless.
Look for others besides Deeney. Cook, D'Agostino, etc.
Deeney appreciates fundamental physics. He is one of the few that is qualified. Others don't think they need to understand the fundamentals. I know a number of PhDs that couldn't manage to find their way out of a wet paper bag with a razor blade. Degree means nothing about qualifications. Very few studying this stuff in school. In fact many think they are owed a spot instead of earning the position. The problem is we have people that lack true experience and think they can manage people. Deeney is a good scientist that understands the physics.
Deeney does at least have the technical credibility. From what I hear all the participants from recent bids are competing for NTS, BWXT, Bechtel, Flour, etc. How many of these companies will come to the table with technical credibility vs. leftover managers from other failed bids?
The director/president has to have a technical background and lots of experience with the DOE/NNSA enterprise, but if he is the only key figure with that background then competitors like Bechtel start to look pretty good. And Bechtel is already a key player in LLNS and LANS, though arguably they are tarred by the miserable performance of LANS.
And feathered by NIF.
