ORNL counter-intelligence officer charged

http://knoxblogs.com/atomiccity/2016/01/05/ex-ornl-counterintelligence-officer-charged-in-death/

This is no doubt due to the arrogance of scientists at LANL, LLNL and Sandia. Funny how there are no arrogant scientists at ORNL. Can someone explain this to me?

Father is charged with son in-law's death, the wife is charged with her husband's death. Heck of a Daddy - Daughter dance they throw in them thar parts.

And the headline should read FORMER counter-intelligence officer. It should be noted that he was a former FBI agent as well. Should the labs not hire former federal law enforcement officials as well?

If you are going to stir the pot of smelly subtance, be willing to lick the spoon.

So does this mean that ONRL is starting to get an culture of arrogance?

He was not "former" when the killing occurred. He is former now once he became a "problem" for ORNL.

Battelle is really efficient at throwing potential problems off the boat and watching them drown. Or holding them under if they don't.

I think you are being harsh on Battelle, perhaps they have to deal with arrogant science culture, and the problems are just to deep to be fixed, ORNL should be shut down.

Culture. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

April 2003 -The onetime head of the FBI's Chinese counterintelligence unit in San Francisco has resigned a sensitive post at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory after authorities said he acknowledged a longtime affair with an alleged Chinese double agent.

The resignation of ex-FBI supervisor William Cleveland Jr. came one day after federal agents in Los Angeles arrested a retired colleague, James J. Smith, and businesswoman Katrina Leung in an espionage-related case Wednesday.

And so it goes.....hahahaha!

This happened at LLNL, never heard about it. If it was at LANL than it would be all over the news in the NYT, accusations of arrogant cowboy scientists, out of control lab, yada, yada, yada.

The beautiful thing about culture is that you can just say it and labels everyone and everything they do and you do not have to provide specifics or fract. You can use it to condemn groups or promote groups just by invoking the word. It is very effective on the weak minded which is why it is now so powerful. Here are some examples.

Star wars fans are know for having culture of laziness and ineptitude.

The entire culture of DHS culture is that of short sighted arrogance.

UCLA has a live for today Yolo party culture.

The problem with Wisconsin is the entire "we are so much better" culture that provides the state.

The city of Chicago's culture of excellence is example for the rest of the nation to live by.

Plutonium Shots on NIF.

Tri-Valley Cares needs to be on this if they aren't already. We need to make sure that NNSA and LLNL does not make good on promises to pursue such stupid ideas as doing Plutonium experiments on NIF. The stupidity arises from the fact that a huge population is placed at risk in the short and long term. Why do this kind of experiment in a heavily populated area? Only a moron would push that kind of imbecile area. Do it somewhere else in the god forsaken hills of Los Alamos. Why should the communities in the Bay Area be subjected to such increased risk just because the lab's NIF has failed twice and is trying the Hail Mary pass of doing an SNM experiment just to justify their existence? Those Laser EoS techniques and the people analyzing the raw data are all just BAD anyways. You know what comes next after they do the experiment. They'll figure out that they need larger samples. More risk for the local population. Stop this imbecilic pursuit. They wan...

Trump is to gut the labs.

The budget has a 20% decrease to DOE office of science, 20% cut to NIH. NASA also gets a cut. This will  have a huge negative effect on the lab. Crazy, juts crazy. He also wants to cut NEA and PBS, this may not seem like  a big deal but they get very little money and do great things.

LLNL un-diversity

Actual post from Dec. 15 from one of the streams. This is a real topic. As far as promoting women and minorities even if their qualifications are not as good as the white male scientists, I am all for it. We need diversity at the lab and if that is what it takes, so be it.  Quit your whining. Look around the lab, what do you see? White male geezers. How many African Americans do you see at the lab? Virtually none. LLNL is one of the MOST undiverse places you will see. Face it folks, LLNL is an institution of white male privilege and they don't want to give up their privileged positions. California, a state of majority Hispanics has the "crown jewel" LLNL nestled in the middle of it with very FEW Hispanics at all!
