This is a viewpoint from someone associated with the Hoover Institute about the destruction of the so-called middle class.
Doesn't the (supposed) government-led destruction of the middle class impact the national labs, which have historically had middle-class workers?

Victor seems a tad bitter to me.
Well, there is a large upper middle class now, and at various times in US history there were many poor immigrants, along with various forms of crime, prostitution, and use of legal and illegal drugs. For example, as in the so-called "wild-west" movies, but there were also eras of great wealth inequality such as the 1920's, crime flourished during prohibition of course, and there was a huge amount of civil unrest and political strife in the past -- for example the civil war.
Of course, other pandemics as well, environmental crises (such as the dust bowl), and severe disasters such as the Chicago fire, the San Francisco earthquake, the Galveston hurricane. Also not new to have homeless people, of course. The history of blacks and Native Americans, of course, their contributions and discrimination against them, along with movements towards civil rights, is a big part of history. The current geopolitical issues of course, are not yet as serious as World War I and World War II, which was a nuclear war in fact.
And the economy (as well as crime I believe) was much, much worse as recently as the 1970's, which had the oil crisis following the 1973 Arab-Israel war, stagflation, Nixon's resignation, the loss in Vietnam, the Iranian hostage crisis, the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, and Carter's energy programs which led to the imposition of a 55 speed limit on all roads, while the Three Mile Island events led to a backlash against nuclear power.
The things going on now, in the context of history, are not that unusual in some ways, it is a big error to think that because the United States is now so modern, that rather than comparing its actual conditions to how it was historically, we compare to a utopian ideal that was never actually present.
I am convinced that some kind ChatGPU or an AI has been posting on this blog. We are getting long but content free posts everyday now. The question is why would somebody or something being doing this?
