Maybe we'll get lucky and it'll be background music to the filming of this landmark occasion. After all it is the final final count down.

PE says the cost of this event have risen from $7M to $17M and it isn't over yet. We still have a week to go. Can anyone out there confirm this expenditure.

They should take that 17m and hire back the people that they layed off. Replacing loyal government workers with lawn care and balloons is just a tragic case of privatization gone bad. If this 17m amount is confirmed it would be worthy of the national news.

Bechtel does a swell job with $17 M for lawn maintenance, don't they? I knew there must be a good reason for bringing them in to run LLNL.

Ever wonder why information like this is so secretive. Not a single person involved will come forward and give the exact dollar amount spent on this job. I wonder if they'll come forward after the 29th of May. A good figure to know would be the "TOTAL" cost of the "Open house" and the "NIF dedication".

BTW folks the "lease a tree" rumor has been debunked. Those trees will stay after irrigation has been put in but for now a water truck will have to do. Now for the "idiot" that called the landscapers "knuckle draggers" that jackass better learn how to take care of his own front yard by getting off his ass and do some yard work at his own home. I'm sure this clown can afford to hire some yard service. I don't live to far from you and as far as I'm concerned you're a disgrace to the neighborhood and the city of Livermore, Ca. Got it, bozo.

The $17M is a very true number. It isn't over yet.

It's LLNS corporate proprietary information, just like all the executive salaries. You don't have a "need to know".

But the American tax payer does, so spit out the waste of our tax dollars so far on this one day event. I'm sure $17 million doesn't cover it all.

I heard most of the plants and trees were rentals and will removed after family day.

Also someone in the hall said 1 million for the wood chips alone.

I hear the Prez did not show. Oh well I guess he really means it when he says he's going to disarm America within his first term of office. No need for weapons, No need for NIF. Oh well.

You're correct, we've been getting it since the take over by LLNS. Check you wallet if you have any doubt and this year should be worse as they get four months free labor and no 20% after tax raises going to thr workers. That's about what it would take to make up what they have taken.

The Secretary of Energy did not show. Heard that he did not feel it was proper to come and say great things about NIF and then cut their budget.

I've found the perfect song for NIF and the Nation. Listen to The Obama Man Can and you'll be singing this song all through the day and night. It's absolutely perfect.

Plutonium Shots on NIF.

Tri-Valley Cares needs to be on this if they aren't already. We need to make sure that NNSA and LLNL does not make good on promises to pursue such stupid ideas as doing Plutonium experiments on NIF. The stupidity arises from the fact that a huge population is placed at risk in the short and long term. Why do this kind of experiment in a heavily populated area? Only a moron would push that kind of imbecile area. Do it somewhere else in the god forsaken hills of Los Alamos. Why should the communities in the Bay Area be subjected to such increased risk just because the lab's NIF has failed twice and is trying the Hail Mary pass of doing an SNM experiment just to justify their existence? Those Laser EoS techniques and the people analyzing the raw data are all just BAD anyways. You know what comes next after they do the experiment. They'll figure out that they need larger samples. More risk for the local population. Stop this imbecilic pursuit. They wan...

Trump is to gut the labs.

The budget has a 20% decrease to DOE office of science, 20% cut to NIH. NASA also gets a cut. This will  have a huge negative effect on the lab. Crazy, juts crazy. He also wants to cut NEA and PBS, this may not seem like  a big deal but they get very little money and do great things.

Rumor corner

LLNS may have excluded the wrong people in last VSSOP? The exclusions were based on outdated job categories and related skills. ULM are now thinking that in the future, job categories and functional areas will have to be re-defined. The next VSSOP/ISP will be based on the new categories and functional areas. The questions I have are: 1) Why didnt they think of that before the transition. It seems like their style is “change things as you go”. Planning is out the window! 2) Who will give input on the new changes? The next RIF apparently is going to be more lucrative than the VSSOP. Depending on the length of employment, a RIFed person, not only gets their 1 week pay per year of service but also from 30 to 120 days notice, essentially 30 to 120 days pay. Please feel free to comment on the rumors or add new ones you actually heard.
