And it saddens me that they won't have the chance to participate in the things that were done there. Thank heaven I was fortunate enough to be in the right place at the right time. There are only a few places in the world where an experimenter can work on "big science" projects, and LANL/LASL used to be one of them.

Uh oh, someone has on their rose colored glasses and is hitting the happy juice. In most ways the loss by UC of the LLNL and LANL contracts was started by the failures that happened under Browne. NNSA was a creation of congress in response to the public debacles that began in the Browne years.
For those that post rants about NNSA and have dreams about returning to UC management, be sure to thank Browne for all he did that led to the current state of affairs.

As one who was "in the middle" of that mess, I can tell you that you have no idea what actually happened. Suffice it to say "you are wrong" since it is obvious that you will not listen to the truth.

No, he's not "stuck in the 70's". He's covering some enormous "flappers".

Prove it. Or do you know him better than most?

Indeed those where ugly times. Some of the best and brightest minds of the labs went unrecognized and left, retired, or where forced out. Some of them may still post of the blogs today. By no means are they bitter empty people who blame others for their failures. They have great amounts of money and insight. They may not have these fancy resumes, publications, and awards. There old coworkers may say that they where mediocre flakes, but none of that matters. The labs under the UC where ugly ugly times.

Name one "ugly time" before the Wen Ho Lee debacle and the resulting rise of the dictatorship of security.
