Best wishes!
Tri-Valley Cares needs to be on this if they aren't already. We need to make sure that NNSA and LLNL does not make good on promises to pursue such stupid ideas as doing Plutonium experiments on NIF. The stupidity arises from the fact that a huge population is placed at risk in the short and long term. Why do this kind of experiment in a heavily populated area? Only a moron would push that kind of imbecile area. Do it somewhere else in the god forsaken hills of Los Alamos. Why should the communities in the Bay Area be subjected to such increased risk just because the lab's NIF has failed twice and is trying the Hail Mary pass of doing an SNM experiment just to justify their existence? Those Laser EoS techniques and the people analyzing the raw data are all just BAD anyways. You know what comes next after they do the experiment. They'll figure out that they need larger samples. More risk for the local population. Stop this imbecilic pursuit. They wan...

The future is tenuous. The lab needs a part of the new complex 21 facilities. It needs new interesting missions to engage and retain weapons talent. To show that we know what we are doing we need to begin again UG testing.
We really need to deploy a RRW so the new generation can learn again the details.
LLNL needs to revise compensation to reward staying at the lab where it takes 5 - 10 years to train a Post Doc to an independant weaponeer. Need to increase compensation dramatically to compete with more interesting, local, productive industries.
They need to decrease NNSA/DOE involvement in any lab to a minimum. These homes for unwed mothers, provide almost no benefit and provide many unwise threats.
Contact 44 needs to be junked as does the LLC notion in favor of a UC-lead scientific institution with significant independence.
As much as I personally like and respect Parney, he only had acted on a few of these things by the time he resigned. It is hard to join the LLNL culture without significant previous exposure. He did a pretty good job.
Parney's career is not over. Being a lab director is not his last hurrah.

You are working at the wrong facility and definitely the wrong mine set. These are for the sole purpose of wiping an adversary off the face of the earth. My only regret is we haven't developed a weapon that you could deployed into the middle of a large city, kill all the people and do no harm to the facilities and leaving no radiation. I could see lots of use for this. Wars would end quickly and lots of very bad people would be gone o short order. Now there's a mission worth working on.
Knapp is an "attack dog". He's been sent to LLNL as the Director for a purpose. Can you guess what it is?
We did - it's called the neutron bomb ! I believe that Carter killed it, and Reagan wisely didn't try to bring it back.
It was called the RRR bomb - Reduced Residual Radiation. It may not have been fieled, but boy did we have fun developing it...
I am a 30 year LLNL employee so yes I have seen many changes & several Directors over the years. Parney is the first one I felt had the guts to fight for what is right for us.
I am grateful for the way Parney treated us. He would actually tell us facts, tell us when he didn't know, and speculate on what he thought might happen. I respect that from him especially in these uncertain times. I wish him all the luck in whatever he decides to do in the future.
God help us all who remain at LLNL.

Yeah, he plans to rip both buttocks off the LLNL ass.

I tried answering you in detail but Scooby deleted my post. No profanity, no name calling. POS accepted the moniker after so many posters called him that. He is over-the-top a government hater, except when it comes to his Social Security and Medicare, which he considers his God-given right. He insists the government will be coming to confiscate everything you own any day now. He also insists he is "not bitter" although he is an ex-LLNL employee who hates everything about LLNL, especially "educated people" whom he considers worthless to society.
That was a bit one sided on your part and unfair.
"He is over-the-top a government hater,"
He believes in the constitution which limited government and being a former lab worker he has good reason hate the government that just spends all his tax dollars.
"except when it comes to his Social Security and Medicare, which he considers his God-given right."
He feels he paid his share of this already and wants it back. He earned his own money. He did not get money from the government or live off the government.
"He insists the government will be coming to confiscate everything you own any day now."
If government continues to grow we will turn into a totalitarian states like Switzerland or Luxemburg where the government has taken away everything including the guns. We cannot let American turn into Switzerland.
"He also insists he is "not bitter""
He has his pension so how could someone be bitter if they have a pension? It just stand to reason.
No all the other people are bitter that they will not have a pension.
"he is an ex-LLNL employee who hates everything about LLNL, especially "educated people" whom he considers worthless to society."
The so called "educated" people speak in ways that no one understands, are naive, and have a cannot do attitude. Perhaps they failed in understanding great intellectual insights of POS.
SO what you're saying is that November 4, 2013 at 9:12 PM nailed it.

He's not a jackass. He's a bull in a China Shop with a red hot chili pepper shoved up his ass.
Can tell you're not from New Mexico. "Chile" is the name given to hot peppers of various varieties. "Chili" is a meat and chile stew, sometimes with beans and tomatoes.
I almost vomited when I saw Knapp in a photo op at LLNL with his cunning smile and receding and "blown back" hair, California boy "does good" look. In truth, the guy is a "tried and true" bastard. He raised hell with me when he was here at LANL.
You think you're upset....Knapp looks a lot like my old man......I suspect that's why he was hired....to deal with me and my poor attitude at work!

Well maybe Bret Knapp is your real daddy? Who's your daddy?

Yeah I saw that picture. If only they knew the "prick" that he is.
