Given Held's comments: In February, Held said DOE/NNSA was looking to move toward more of a “public interest” model of management for the nuclear weapons laboratories and away from the high fees paid to Bechtel and University of California-run contractor teams at Los Alamos and Livermore... "My strong feeling is these institutions exist to serve the public interest. They do not exist for profit maximization," and given that Held concurred with Goldstein's selection, I would expect Goldstein, as President of LLNS, to be quite willing to accommodate the changes NNSA is trying to make.
Tri-Valley Cares needs to be on this if they aren't already. We need to make sure that NNSA and LLNL does not make good on promises to pursue such stupid ideas as doing Plutonium experiments on NIF. The stupidity arises from the fact that a huge population is placed at risk in the short and long term. Why do this kind of experiment in a heavily populated area? Only a moron would push that kind of imbecile area. Do it somewhere else in the god forsaken hills of Los Alamos. Why should the communities in the Bay Area be subjected to such increased risk just because the lab's NIF has failed twice and is trying the Hail Mary pass of doing an SNM experiment just to justify their existence? Those Laser EoS techniques and the people analyzing the raw data are all just BAD anyways. You know what comes next after they do the experiment. They'll figure out that they need larger samples. More risk for the local population. Stop this imbecilic pursuit. They wan...

Those high contractor fees came right out of the budget for total employee compensation.
-1700 LLNL folks were fired to pay those fees.
-Compensation was reduced for others.
-The pension was lost for new employees.
-Salaries were frozen for years. -Training budgets were eliminated.
If that fee refund is anyone's, it belongs to LLNL employees, not some worthless NNSA fleabag whose worthless predecessors caused the problem.
Damnation to Bodman. A high-speed shoe for Held.

You do realize that the fee goes into the US Treasury general fund and the NNSA employees just get their salary? Try to calm down.

Very poignant. Except, I am the OP here, not you. One might tell by the tone and subject of the OP vs your pessimistic drivel.
