Yet another LANL report from the IG

However, LANL continued to have problems in fully implementing a number of critical nuclear safety management requirements. This contributed to multiple safety basis iterations and lengthy update, review, and approval processes. Specifically, LANL had not always developed safety basis documents that met NNSA's expectations to ensure that nuclear hazards had been fully identified and that mitigation controls had been implemented; resolved issues identified in the annual updates to the safety bases for two nuclear facilities; and resolved significant and long-standing nuclear safety deficiencies.

We found that LANL had not effectively implemented its Safety Basis Improvement Plan, which was designed to enable LANL to build upon lessons learned and assessment findings. In addition, nuclear safety deficiencies were not always resolved because corrective actions were not effectively designed to prevent recurrence. Further improvements in nuclear safety are essential if the Department is to be in a position to ensure workers and the public that safety risks associated with nuclear facility operations have been effectively mitigated.

What again! How long do you think this can go on? Even our own Congressional Delegation is whispering NEW CONTRACT. LANS has proved to the employees, the entire Nuclear Weapons Complex and the nation of just how inept they are. Rumors are that University of California has been asked to bid on the entire contract. Whomever gets the new contract, it is high time for LANS to bid us a fond farewell, don't ya think?

UC running the contract?
Must be April 1 instead of July.

Rumors are that University of California has been asked to bid on the entire contract.

But, but UC was the entire reason for the contract change in the first place!
Look how UC destroyed the labs, Wen Ho Lee, forest fires, stolen mustangs, culture of theft, data behind copiers, cowboy scientists, non safety culture, arrogant scientists, blowing up buildings, DARHT not working, know it all scientists, lost CREM, secrets and meth, out of control workforce, mission creep, creepy scientists, Vic Reis said something when UC as in charge.

The IG report is harsh, but it may not be harsh enough to force a change. UC picks the Director, and the current one has contributed significantly to the demand for a contract change. A change may be in the wind, but it is unlikely to be UC that comes out a winner.

Under Dynes, UC has become a bigger disaster than the National Labs. Go away, UC!

This statement seems a bit harsh given the fact that Dynes resigned in August 2007. But maybe like the undead, he works from beyond the retirement?

Here is a hint, 6:29. UC hasn't exactly recovered in the intervening years.

Sounds like a success story compared to LANS and the takeover by Livermore (Mara, Anastasio, Knapp, and McMillan). Anyone care to "rack-up" LANS success stories?

How long do you want to keep someone responsible for the current state after they left?

Hint: You must be one of the people who blame thei parents for your shortcomings.

Really? I thought McMillan was still Lab Director.

Need to pay more for bettrr people. Low salaries draw low performers.

The list shows real and imaginary failures that are insignificant. Just the natural byproduct of 10000 imperfect people laboring over 50 years. Compared to the successes in the same time span the overall contibution

some weak, overly sensitve bystanders may be piqued by an item listed, but none, individually or aggreagated rise to the permanent level of dagebdone to national security by the loss of nuckear weapons science comptence lost since the contacts were changed only 8 years ago.

Managing the weapons program is a complex scientific and political undertaking. Neither Congress nor NNSA is up to the task. Independent, competent scientists working for UC are the only group proven to be up to the task.

And the minor, over-hyped failures that are a natural by-product if the complex labor of 10,000 people will continue to occur regularly and will continue to be discovered as long as malcontents look for them.

The truffle hunt continues. A Much more important open question is weather a safe, effective nuclear weapons program continues.

Sorry for the muddled posts, tge android text editor interface to the blog is nearly impossible. I gave up trying to fix the errors in this post.

That list is it? That's the sum of all LANL miserable failures over 50 years? 1000s laid off and 10000 lives disrupted, weapons science in question for that faggoty, puny list?

For all the wailing and gnashing of teeth, I thought Satan secretly reigned over the Mesa with plans on advancing forthwit6 on the plains of Meggido.

Some jackass threw out an proven 50 year lab manager for that shitty little list of insults. What a weakling! What magnificent incomptence!

I love the baby boom lead United States. We are such worthless, incompetent dolts.

UC is still in power. The LLC is just a front. Nothing has changed except employee benefits and that is NEVER coming back. Look across the complex.

Plutonium Shots on NIF.

Tri-Valley Cares needs to be on this if they aren't already. We need to make sure that NNSA and LLNL does not make good on promises to pursue such stupid ideas as doing Plutonium experiments on NIF. The stupidity arises from the fact that a huge population is placed at risk in the short and long term. Why do this kind of experiment in a heavily populated area? Only a moron would push that kind of imbecile area. Do it somewhere else in the god forsaken hills of Los Alamos. Why should the communities in the Bay Area be subjected to such increased risk just because the lab's NIF has failed twice and is trying the Hail Mary pass of doing an SNM experiment just to justify their existence? Those Laser EoS techniques and the people analyzing the raw data are all just BAD anyways. You know what comes next after they do the experiment. They'll figure out that they need larger samples. More risk for the local population. Stop this imbecilic pursuit. They wan...

Trump is to gut the labs.

The budget has a 20% decrease to DOE office of science, 20% cut to NIH. NASA also gets a cut. This will  have a huge negative effect on the lab. Crazy, juts crazy. He also wants to cut NEA and PBS, this may not seem like  a big deal but they get very little money and do great things.

LLNL un-diversity

Actual post from Dec. 15 from one of the streams. This is a real topic. As far as promoting women and minorities even if their qualifications are not as good as the white male scientists, I am all for it. We need diversity at the lab and if that is what it takes, so be it.  Quit your whining. Look around the lab, what do you see? White male geezers. How many African Americans do you see at the lab? Virtually none. LLNL is one of the MOST undiverse places you will see. Face it folks, LLNL is an institution of white male privilege and they don't want to give up their privileged positions. California, a state of majority Hispanics has the "crown jewel" LLNL nestled in the middle of it with very FEW Hispanics at all!
