Evidently Berkeley didn't have a staff relations like LLNL to take care of the accusers.

He didn't have to resign of course, and in terms of punishment he got a slap on the wrist - don't do it again or else. UC faculty are heavily protected.

Staff Relations at LLNL would have had Marcy's back. They would have gone to the victims, feigned sympathy, and collected any and all negative information they could on the victims. They then would have strongly encouraged the witnesses to change or recant their testimony. Oh, and they would have had a big brainstorming session wiith the managers to get their story straight.

One of the best tactics that SR uses on the workers is saying "Manager X is saying these horrible things about you that we can't repeat to you" and "the optics of this makes you look really bad". Psychological torture designed to mess with your brain and wear you down.

After complaints this summer by four former students of sexual harassment violations involving "groping students, kissing them and touching or massaging them inside their clothes" from 2001 to 2010, the university’s chancellor, Nicholas B. Dirks, and the executive vice chancellor and provost, Claude Steele said,

“We want to state unequivocally that Professor Marcy’s conduct, as determined by the investigation, was contemptible and inexcusable. We also want to express our sympathy to the women who were victimized, and we deeply regret the pain they have suffered.”

For 9 years this guys behavior was tolerated by the University? "Contemptible and inexcusable"? This sounds more like sorry we were exposed rather than sorry the events occurred.

Ok Amos. He didn't fondle folks for 9 years. In the 3000 days, he harassed one every 750 days or so, not an event rate that immediately grabs your attention. Pespective folks.

My reading on the topic indicates that the sexual harassment was probably a lot worse. But its probably hell having hot female grad students, I'm just guessing ?

Tri-Valley Cares needs to be on this if they aren't already. We need to make sure that NNSA and LLNL does not make good on promises to pursue such stupid ideas as doing Plutonium experiments on NIF. Trump is to gut the labs.

The budget has a 20% decrease to DOE office of science, 20% cut to NIH. NASA also gets a cut. This will  have a huge negative effect on the lab. Crazy, juts crazy. He also wants to cut NEA and PBS, this may not seem like  a big deal but they get very little money and do great things.

LLNL un-diversity

Actual post from Dec. 15 from one of the streams. This is a real topic. As far as promoting women and minorities even if their qualifications are not as good as the white male scientists, I am all for it. We need diversity at the lab and if that is what it takes, so be it.  Quit your whining. Look around the lab, what do you see? White male geezers. How many African Americans do you see at the lab? Virtually none. LLNL is one of the MOST undiverse places you will see. Face it folks, LLNL is an institution of white male privilege and they don't want to give up their privileged positions. California, a state of majority Hispanics has the "crown jewel" LLNL nestled in the middle of it with very FEW Hispanics at all!
