Odd that the
article did not focus on the large ethics scandals at LANL, since this
is the paper that broke the Beth Sellers story and Charlie's long
coverup.

Was there some dysfunction before the contract change?
"George Anastas, a nuclear engineer and health physicist in Albuquerque, said some simple steps would help the lab. The facility should require employees and subcontractors to not only go through training in safely handling hazardous materials, but test them every year, he told the Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board, an oversight panel appointed by the president, earlier this year. A minimum score should be required to stay in their positions, he said."
Amazing. It's not that people do not know how to work safely and securely, and don't know rules and procedures. They simply ignore them in a cowboy culture of arrogance. Nothing will change unless you change the culture.
"They simply ignore them in a cowboy culture of arrogance."
Proof please.
"Nothing will change unless you change the culture."
What culture?
Call it whatever you want. Arrogant, cowboy, whatever. Here are a few:
Why did PF-4 and WETF shut down? Arrogance followed by a pride swallowing thump.
Does LANL follow federal regulations in regards to waste, explosives, classified information? Does LANL even read the regs?
How does LANL approach the other labs? Let's see, LLNL is a joke about lasers to them. Sandia is not a lab to them it is a production facility. ORNL is a bunch of hicks.
I personally have not met an arrogant scientist, in fact the ones I have met are generally quiet and humble but I have met a heck of a lot of arrogant non scientist and they were here at LANL way before LANS was even a thought.
Deny all you want but at the end of the day, the world will keep spinning if they do shut the place down.
The answer to the top line question is yes.
I think that maybe the "culture" guy is Nanos. Hi Pete!
Hell yes we're arrogant. We are more literate and smarter than you. Our kids go to better schools than yours do. We are better skiers than you, and we are richer than you. So, like in Monte Python, we fart in your general direction!
8:43am, really, gross.
You do not represent us well, if at all.
