LANL: worst place to work in all of the complex

LANL still has the market cornered. Worst place to work in all of the complex.

So you know this first hand but still work there? Why? Self-abuse? If it is not first hand, why repeat innuendo and rumor? Either way, you are a complete jerk. Thousands of good people disagree with you.

True expect that it is not true, at least by all the people that want to work at LANL and want the pay, but hey don't let a good narrative get in your way. I am no fan of LANS but you did say the "complex" and so it is. You could say the world or the world of science and you may have a partial argument but the complex...ahem...no, LANL is not the worst place in the complex, never has been and never will be, and yes some of us know this for a fact. There are of course some who have personal reasons that cause them to say, that is to say they have no choice but to say, to proclaim, that LANL is the Devil, but those are personal reasons, very very,...very, personal reasons and not as we shall say rational reasons to say that LANL is the Devil. We all have personal reasons for our motivations but some are more personal than others if you know what I mean and some of the posters know exactly what I mean.

One thing is of sure, since LANS took over, working at the LANL nuclear facilities (WETF, PF-4, RANT, WCRRF, CMR, Area G) in one word: "suck", in every sense of the word. LANS brought in some of the most "hateful" leaders from all over (e.g. Savannah River, Becthel, etc.) to intimidate and roll over folks. I'll be glad when LANS term ENDS!

It IS true that LANS is among the worst employers ever.

It is simply your opinion. Do you even know the difference? There is still a thing known as "truth" which you don't get to decide on your own. If you don't get it, you are not alone, but you will be soon.

Well that depends on who you are. Before LANS if you where a high level manager or even the Director you made a good salary but you had to work for it. Since LANS there has been a proliferation of new management positions that pay way more than any lab Director was paid before LANS, and it is on record that that these salaries are in the millions, first class flights, lots of perks, and little work. So in short LANS can be one of the best employers ever if you played your cards right. The next contract may also be one of best employers ever and there is as many people keep going on about the "tremendous" opportunities in the next contract and now is the time to position yourself. There is money to made, big money in a "for profit" run NNSA lab, so are you in or not? What else could the purpose of an NNSA run lab be?

In case you haven't heard, NNSA has long ago (at least 3 years) decided that for-profit contractors will no longer run LANL or LLNL.

LANS has the plan for making LANL grand.
Just you wait and see!

Maybe so, but New Mexico needs those taxes some kind arrangement must be made to keep the labs for profit or to have some kind of legal yearly bribe arranged. Did anyone thing through the whole idea of making the labs for profit in the first place?

No, no one "thinged" through it. Several high-level senators and congressman thought through it, however. They were wrong.

Due to corporate donations and such they may find that it was the right thing to do, at least for them personally.

Here are some people who moved from Livermore to Los Alamos in the past three years: Grant Bazan, Ray Tolar, Chris Werner, Greg Archbold, and Ted Perry.
Here are some people who moved from Sandia to Los Alamos in the past three years: Ray Leeper and Rick Olson.

"LANL, worst place to work in all of the Complex"

...as told by people who have never worked a real-world, non-cushy job

You said complex. Well, there is no complex. There is only LANL! Everything else is just a waste of taxpayers money.

oh yes, actual products produced at rates 1/4 of LANL are a waste.

Agree with the Headline, worst place to work in the NWC.

Plutonium Shots on NIF.

Tri-Valley Cares needs to be on this if they aren't already. We need to make sure that NNSA and LLNL does not make good on promises to pursue such stupid ideas as doing Plutonium experiments on NIF. The stupidity arises from the fact that a huge population is placed at risk in the short and long term. Why do this kind of experiment in a heavily populated area? Only a moron would push that kind of imbecile area. Do it somewhere else in the god forsaken hills of Los Alamos. Why should the communities in the Bay Area be subjected to such increased risk just because the lab's NIF has failed twice and is trying the Hail Mary pass of doing an SNM experiment just to justify their existence? Those Laser EoS techniques and the people analyzing the raw data are all just BAD anyways. You know what comes next after they do the experiment. They'll figure out that they need larger samples. More risk for the local population. Stop this imbecilic pursuit. They wan...

Trump is to gut the labs.

The budget has a 20% decrease to DOE office of science, 20% cut to NIH. NASA also gets a cut. This will  have a huge negative effect on the lab. Crazy, juts crazy. He also wants to cut NEA and PBS, this may not seem like  a big deal but they get very little money and do great things.

LLNL un-diversity

Actual post from Dec. 15 from one of the streams. This is a real topic. As far as promoting women and minorities even if their qualifications are not as good as the white male scientists, I am all for it. We need diversity at the lab and if that is what it takes, so be it.  Quit your whining. Look around the lab, what do you see? White male geezers. How many African Americans do you see at the lab? Virtually none. LLNL is one of the MOST undiverse places you will see. Face it folks, LLNL is an institution of white male privilege and they don't want to give up their privileged positions. California, a state of majority Hispanics has the "crown jewel" LLNL nestled in the middle of it with very FEW Hispanics at all!
