Surprise state inspection yields multiple LANL environmental violations
LANL has plate full with even more bad news from NMED.

The state may be sending a message to NNSA about the bidding. You better pick a for profit or expect us to do surprise visits every week and getting that 100 mill back in fines every year if it comes to that. Your choice but we are getting our money one way or the other the easy path forward is to keep it for profit, the other path is gonna cost you anyways and bring in bad press. Play nice or New Mexico is gonna play hard.
Remember that UC was in flagrant violation of NMED for decades and never paid fines. Not a fan of the current crop of LANS managers, but at least NMED is willing to step up and issue fines to force some level of compliance.
Definitely not the State sending a message to NNSA about the bid. These violations were discovered last Nov. 13 and RESOLVED this past February. The State had actually discovered MORE hazardous waste permit violations in the years BEFORE the contract re-bid was announced.
We will see. Politics is definitely afoot. Even in the DOE between EM and NNSA.
