China's 'artificial sun' set a new world record on Thursday by running for 1,056 seconds at high plasma temperature, the longest duration for an experimental advanced superconducting tokamak (EAST) fusion energy reactor, Xinhua News Agency reported.
EAST already scored a previous record in May, running for 101 seconds at a temperature of 120 million degrees Celsius.

Good for them. Maybe they get fusion reactors running quickly. Then they can stop building coal plants and Greta Thunberg can retire.

Do not worry about China. Jan 6th is coming up and like so many of you I am scared and reliving the trauma of a year ago from the coup attempt to overthrow the United States of American. This could have lead to thousands if not millions of lives lost and the end of the nation. I shutter just thinking how close we came to losing it all in a coordinated insurrection which cost the lives of 6 police officers and physical wounded hundreds more, this is on top of the many thousands of people who will suffer from post traumatic stress disorder. What makes me so concerned about the future is the lack of accountability to the planners of the insurrection and those who condensed it which included dozens members of congress, senate and a sitting president not to mention thousands of right wing pundits on twitter, facebook, youtube and Fox news who encouraged this or did not denounce this. These people need to be in jail, or not be allowed to interact with public again. We can never let this happen again, never forgot Jan 6. Japan probably could have defeated the US in WW2 so Jan 6 in my opinion and any reasonable and well educated American is far worse than Pearl Harbor, as it was the closest we have ever gotten to losing the nation. We need accountability. I know that for many tomorrow will be hard day to get through but together we can do this.

Try watching CNN or MSNBC on Jan 6 and tell me again if you think this fear is irrational or delusional. It is going to be relived over and over again like 9/11 every year.

Like many of you I spent Thursday in a state of fear and grief. Grief for our nation that we have so many people who have no problem with a coup attempt that would have been the end of our nation as we know it and would have brought in dictator who would than curtail all or freedoms and persecute minority groups, a state religion, and would have shut down the free press. We would be like the countless number of failed states to allow a dictator to take over.

It won't be a Jan6-like mob that destroys democracy in 2024, but rather the takeover of state governments, and disqualification of the electorate. The Dimocrats have wasted a year trying to pass the great giveaway, instead of focusing on protection of voter rights, and nuking the filibuster to get'er done. Those milquetoasts have no chance of getting any protective laws on the books in place before they are thrown out in 2022. The Orange Dictator cometh !

Nonsense. There are plenty of left-wingers (or even centrists) with weapons, and good ones, in this country, so no right-wing dictator will last very long. Same for the other side. That is the beauty (and purpose) of the Second Amendment.

Indeed if we do not take action Trump could come back, or the Republicans could get of the house. After Jan 6th we have to get get serious to make sure this does not happen again. I think Shumer needs to get rid of the Filibuster right away and throw out every Senator and Congress member who supported Trump or the insurrection. They need to denounce this in the full or be disqualified from running again. We also need to seriously consider who we allow to vote, if you someone think Jan 6 was not an insurrection than maybe should not be allowed to vote since you do not even believe in democracy in the first place.

I am a fan of the constitution especially the ability change it. However we must also guard against adhering so much to
the Constitution it that it leads to our demise. The people of 1770s had no idea the internet would could come about where anyone could access whatever information they want to confirm their beliefs no matter how irrational or dangerous that belief is. When the founders thought about freedom of press, they meant smart people with ethical standards to give unbiased information to the public. Now anyone can get on Facebook, youtube, tick-tock or start a blog and say "freedom of press" or "freedom of speech". This is extremely dangerous. We can only do one of two things. (1) is have qualifications in order to vote. For example if you are not vaxed you cannot vote, if you support the insurrection you cannot vote, if you hold racists ideas you cannot vote, if you hold crazy ideas you cannot vote. The problem with (1) is that it goes against Constitution. The better option is (2) we have a proper definition of what press is and what information people can say in public. For example someone like Alex Jones is clearly not press, if we make laws that only people committed to truth can be press and anyone else who spreads false information is in violation than we can get rid of people like Alex Jones, Fox News, Breitbart, patriot radio and so on. We could also make it a violation to pass on false information. We would still have free speech and free press but we now have a proper definition of press, and making up crazy stuff, false stuff, or racist stuff, does not count as press.
In fact this could be done simply by amending freedom of press by saying that the press shall not have a bias, shall not create false impression, spread falsehoods, and be committed to the public good. Any person who is not certified to be a member of the press shall in no way act as vehicle for mass public information. Anyone who passes along false information from a false press source is also in violation of the amended free press laws.
I wold also propose a Federal takeover of the internet and social media. You could still watch your cat videos, and Tick Tock dancers, but no more of these Alex Jones, or endless number of conspiracy theory people claiming they are news. We have made some good steps in this direction like banning people spreading false information about Covid, but we need to take that even further and ban people that are spreading any kind of false information in general. I will now provide you with proof why this needs to be done. After the Nov 2020 election, the internet and social media was filled with all sorts of people saying the election was stolen, social media has as much sway over people as the regular news media. This mean that you had 1/3 of the public believing false information that the election was stolen leading to the Jan 6 insurrection. We simply got lucky that this was not the end of US had the insurrection been successful. Right now we have no way of preventing a repeat of this with the internet and social media the way it is now. We either strip the rights of certain groups of people which is problematic or we act like adults and realize that the current system of the internet and social media needs to be controlled. We have controls on air traffic, the road systems, the school systems, the tax systems, the police forces and so on, we simply need to do the same thing for digital information.
To bring this to the labs the internet and social media are big complex entities in order to have controls or rules it will take complex modeling and new tools. This will fall under the guise of domestic security and could be a good funding source for the labs. In any case you better get use to it because I suspect that labs are going to tone doing more of this kind research in the future.
We start out with fusion reactors, jump to the overthrow of the United States and then make the leap to suspending the constitution. And here I thought that Monty Python were the champions of the non-sequitur.
