Sort of a fluff piece where it recalls the success of the shot in 2022 (and mentions the 5 failed attempts to repeat the successful shot). This is probably an outgrowth of the soiree held on May 8th at the lab to celebrate the shot.
People are going to focus in on the fact that it has taken so much effort to reach this point but that it doesn't relate to creating a sustained capability that could be used in a commercial setting. I would point out that NIF's true goal was to learn more of the physics of fusion as it applies to nuclear weapons. That's not politically correct, but it is necessary.
And for those that argue we aren't learning anything as it applies to weapons research, how about letting us get back to testing in Nevada again?
