"Conspiracy theorist and right-wing comedian Owen Benjamin is now claiming that nuclear bombs do not exist because there is evidence of cameras filming nuclear blasts.

“It’s weird that the nuclear blasts vaporised brick houses but not the old times camera recording it. It’s because nukes are fake.” Benjamin claims. “Hiroshima and Nagasaki never had any fall out radiation. The whole narrative and all the evidence is absurd.”"

My guess was there was flat earth conspiracy a few years ago but with just telescope a far off object and a few calculations you can show the earth is not flat. The flat earth guys even did some experiments and figured they are wrong. So how do you prove nukes are real, do these guys have to make one, test it and go, " I guess I was wrong"

Wow. You should check out these links, for example, for other odd theories:

Some people seem to be claiming, for example, that the Lord will wipe us out, for some supposed sins, although in an objective sense there may have been more sins in the late 60's. This conspiracy theory, doesn't necessarily depend on man-made destruction either, it could be a case of something involving natural processes.

The birds are not real is actually a joke. The fun part is that it could just as well be a real conspiracy in which you claim birds are surveillance drones. There are probably some people who believe this one.

Right now the current conspiracies are

(1) UFOS are on earth right now, before you think this some some Harvard professor just said he found UFO parts near New Guiana.

(2) The Covid vaccine will kill everyone any day now.

(3) There is group of elite who want to depopulate the earth and transfer their minds to machines.

(4) Covid was made in a lab in China with the help of the US

Before you think these guys are all crazy ask your self if you believe in something that is crazy? I bet most have something they either believe or think is possible but is probably a conspiracy theory. A good conspiracy can have a small chanceof being possible but in general the believers ignores all other possible explanations or evidence. These crazy ideas turn out to be true or partially true on occasion but 9 or 10 times the are wrong, but people only remember the one time it was sort of right and generalize that all conspiracies theories must be true.

Everyone knows about all the right wing conspiracies, Covid, the elite and so on, however the left wing also has beliefs that on the face of it are also crazy, such as you can change your sex, critical race theory, that there is group of elite rich people that control society to make more money and so on. These ideas maybe more mainstream that the right wing junk but in fact have much the same structure as conspiracies in that some part could be true, or possible but they will not consider other explanations or look at other evidence.

I think the biggest conspiracy theory I hear is that people who’ve had the vaccine can still get COVID. Absolutely ridiculous. These conspiracy theorists also say that you can be vaccinated, get the virus, and give it another person who has also been vaccinated. Insane!

It does look like there the evidence or suspicion that COVID emerged from a laboratory, is quite substantial, and we actually know now that there was a "conspiracy" to censor or suppress speculation along those lines in the United States.

As for any UFO's or elites, there is a lack of solid evidence there, I think.

The Biblical beliefs as I pointed out, are of course, a form of conspiracy theory as well attributing earthly events to opposing supernatural powers, good and evil, or alternately can be seen as a warning that bad things do happen as historically, all good times are followed by bad, and of course, good times as they continue, lead to a sort of moral and ethical decline. Since humanity has unprecedented power and control in this day and age, we might expect some sort of apocalypse if this historical pattern holds.

I pretty much agree with you on Covid.

The UFO stuff is weird because you are starting to see astronomy professors is Harvard claiming this stuff.

https://www.cbsnews.com/boston/news/avi-loeb-harvard-professor-alien-technology-fragments/

So Aliens make UFOs out of iron? This just seems dumb and I would not want to be in this guys group. From what I know most other faculty find these claims either weird or just a cheap way to get attention.

Plutonium Shots on NIF.

Tri-Valley Cares needs to be on this if they aren't already. We need to make sure that NNSA and LLNL does not make good on promises to pursue such stupid ideas as doing Plutonium experiments on NIF. The stupidity arises from the fact that a huge population is placed at risk in the short and long term. Why do this kind of experiment in a heavily populated area? Only a moron would push that kind of imbecile area. Do it somewhere else in the god forsaken hills of Los Alamos. Why should the communities in the Bay Area be subjected to such increased risk just because the lab's NIF has failed twice and is trying the Hail Mary pass of doing an SNM experiment just to justify their existence? Those Laser EoS techniques and the people analyzing the raw data are all just BAD anyways. You know what comes next after they do the experiment. They'll figure out that they need larger samples. More risk for the local population. Stop this imbecilic pursuit. They wan...

Trump is to gut the labs.

The budget has a 20% decrease to DOE office of science, 20% cut to NIH. NASA also gets a cut. This will  have a huge negative effect on the lab. Crazy, juts crazy. He also wants to cut NEA and PBS, this may not seem like  a big deal but they get very little money and do great things.

LLNL un-diversity

Actual post from Dec. 15 from one of the streams. This is a real topic. As far as promoting women and minorities even if their qualifications are not as good as the white male scientists, I am all for it. We need diversity at the lab and if that is what it takes, so be it.  Quit your whining. Look around the lab, what do you see? White male geezers. How many African Americans do you see at the lab? Virtually none. LLNL is one of the MOST undiverse places you will see. Face it folks, LLNL is an institution of white male privilege and they don't want to give up their privileged positions. California, a state of majority Hispanics has the "crown jewel" LLNL nestled in the middle of it with very FEW Hispanics at all!
