This looks more like a confluence of undeclared regional wars, carried out by proxies, similar to what happened during the cold war, with various parties vying for influence in places like Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East.
There were some large wars during the cold war, for example Vietnam, Korea, the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, the Iran-Iraq war, the 1967 and 1973 Arab-Israeli conflicts, etc. The Ukraine war could be seen as mirroring some of these conflicts, and the 2023 Gaza war is in some ways analogous to the 1973 conflict.
