Security clearances

Do you remember how hard it was to get a Q clearance? You needed a good reputation, good credit and you couldn't lie about anything.

Well, the next president,  with his 34 felonies, lies, hatred and racism, will have access to anything he wants and (he said it) help his sycophants get one.

This should scare and outrage anyone having or needing a clearance.

Your thoughts and reactions?

We sacrifice to maintain eligibility for a security clearance every 5 years and here is a felon getting his ,no question asked. The MAGAs who elected him will have a severe hangover when he sells us to Putin and XI. It won't happen overnight. It will be a gradual takeover which will be normalized as was his racism and hatred, lies and dishonesty.
A slap in your face!

This is beyond utter nonsense. The 8.33pm is completely unhinged, just think about what you are saying.

I know you want to say Trump is another António de Oliveira Salazar or Ioannis Metaxas but he is not.

Many of previous presidents were also not that great -- for example Nixon -- didn't he have racist ideas and also commit crimes? And Bill Clinton lied under oath and was impeached. I am not convinced that Trump is somehow especially bad given the previous history of the presidency. Nixon had secret meetings with the Chinese. And other mass deportations, such as those under Eisenhower, other periods of high tariffs, etc.

The bathrooms at Mar-a-Lago stacked to the ceilings with bankers boxes filled with TS/SCI documents that he was selling to foreign governments. Oi.

So past bad, illegal behavior, justifies future such behavior. I was not taught that way, perhaps others were. Keeping those documents at his house is a big problem. I know what would happen to me if I did that. But the Supreme Court says they are immune. It did not say the actions are legal, there is immunity. Does that apply to murder? If someone else is ordered to commit murder does it apply?

The orange man can shot someone and face no consequences. I never thought a democratic republic can allow that

If the FBI kicked down my door and found TS/SCI documents in my bathroom I would spend the rest of my life in a cell in the SCIF wing of ADX Florence except for one brief day trip to a federal courthouse where they would have my show trial.
But, as we all know, rules are for little people.

Do you know anything about the case? It seems not. The case was dropped and it was not the supreme court that did that. The whole thing was nutball stuff to begin with if you think about it. No one thought about it.

Plutonium Shots on NIF.

Tri-Valley Cares needs to be on this if they aren't already. We need to make sure that NNSA and LLNL does not make good on promises to pursue such stupid ideas as doing Plutonium experiments on NIF. The stupidity arises from the fact that a huge population is placed at risk in the short and long term. Why do this kind of experiment in a heavily populated area? Only a moron would push that kind of imbecile area. Do it somewhere else in the god forsaken hills of Los Alamos. Why should the communities in the Bay Area be subjected to such increased risk just because the lab's NIF has failed twice and is trying the Hail Mary pass of doing an SNM experiment just to justify their existence? Those Laser EoS techniques and the people analyzing the raw data are all just BAD anyways. You know what comes next after they do the experiment. They'll figure out that they need larger samples. More risk for the local population. Stop this imbecilic pursuit. They wan...

Trump is to gut the labs.

The budget has a 20% decrease to DOE office of science, 20% cut to NIH. NASA also gets a cut. This will  have a huge negative effect on the lab. Crazy, juts crazy. He also wants to cut NEA and PBS, this may not seem like  a big deal but they get very little money and do great things.

LLNL un-diversity

Actual post from Dec. 15 from one of the streams. This is a real topic. As far as promoting women and minorities even if their qualifications are not as good as the white male scientists, I am all for it. We need diversity at the lab and if that is what it takes, so be it.  Quit your whining. Look around the lab, what do you see? White male geezers. How many African Americans do you see at the lab? Virtually none. LLNL is one of the MOST undiverse places you will see. Face it folks, LLNL is an institution of white male privilege and they don't want to give up their privileged positions. California, a state of majority Hispanics has the "crown jewel" LLNL nestled in the middle of it with very FEW Hispanics at all!
