Article does not state how much electricity is required, just says renewable electricity. If it works, will the race for grabbing CO2 interfere with all the plants that depend on it as well?

Gasoline is not just carbon.

That's true, there are hydrogen atoms in those CH chains, too. But carbon is the only element that the media are aware of. They aren't chemists. They didn't even take high school chemistry.
