Interesting it mentions Hubble and NASA’s 50 million dollar repair. For less than that the correct profile could have been machined within a few angstroms on LODTM, the first time. LODTM was the world most accurate machine tool at that time. However politics fowled that up. The good thing LLNS scrapped that machine and DTM3 soon after taking control of LLNL. Probably no one left even knows anything about that machine, the metrology and that technology.
