Several people have noticed that even onsite at LANL people are smelling weed. It has been going on for about a year now. There are several pot shops in town. Hey I get it is legal and if you go to city you are now going to be smelling weed most of the time but I find it odd just where you smell it now. I have been driving on the highway with the window up and you can smell it on occasion (no it is not a skunk). You also smell it odd places like beaches, malls, airports, and hospital waiting rooms.
The onsite lab times are the most odd, I guess it could be a non-smoker but someone who lives with a smoker and gets in on their cloths, or just some non LANL workers onsite on occasion.
It is impressive that after legalization how much the smell is everywhere now.

Did LANL suspend random drug testing? When California legalized marijuana LLNL immediately made it clear to the employees that this was a federal workplace and federal drug rules applied.
LANL definitely still has drug testing. I have no idea why one would smell marijuana onsite, maybe there has been an uptick in people testing positive or maybe some contractors are not tested? A new pot store just opened so some people in town are certainly smoking.
Its probably the senior leadership, they'd have to be high to think they're doing a good job.
It could be some people renting a house. If one person in the house who does not work at the lab but uses pot, the smell will get on everything. Sounds unpleasant but housing is so tight you will have to do what you have to do.
Also I have heard about people living in apartments and if one of the nearby units has a pot smoker you will have the smell in your place as well. I know some people who live in Los Vegas and they say all the apartments have the smell now.
Who knows but the drug testing trucks are out everyday but I have no data on if there is uptick in positive cases.
I've never smelled any pot at LANL, but then again, I don't work with procurement, HR, craft and facilities where being high on pot all day would explain a lot.
