Cesar Chavez Celebration Day

Will there be a Cesar Chavez Celebration Day at LLNL this month?

In past years, LLNL celebrated the life and work of Cesar Chavez for diversity, inclusion, and social justice.

Just days ago, Cesar Chavez, former president and co-founder of the United Farm Workers (UFW), was allegedly accused of sexual abuse against young women and minors. Specific allegations have not been released, but scheduled Cesar Chavez celebrations across the Country, have been cancelled. These accusations are horrible if true, and if true, why did it take over 30 years to surface?

Illegal sexual misconduct sooner or later gets flushed out. Sad for the victims it took this long. A newspaper like the New York Times in this case, breaks the story, followed by victim confirmations. Likely many administrative types facilitated or enabled the alleged misconduct and they are complicit too.

“Democrats have a spine. built on morality. GOP have no spine and no morality. Just hatred and racism!”

Cesar Chavez was a staunch Democrat, publicly recognized by President Biden and Governor Newsom.

Cesar Chavez was NOT in favor of illegal immigration, and as part of the 1974 “Illegals Campaign”, encouraged UFW members to report undocumented workers to the INS, and to physically patrol the border to prevent undocumented immigrants from crossing the border. Did this make Cesar Chavez a Democrat, a “hateful racist” in your opinion?

I think there is a reason the NYT story came out now. Much of this was known about Chavez for a very long time but MSM would never touch it. More recently there has been more push back from US citizens with Hispanic backgrounds on illegal immigration which has effected their communities, and many have pointed to Chavez has having a similar stance. This means MSM now has a reason to attack Chavez.

I am not condoning Chavez's behavior but it was very convenient that years ago you could not run this story but now you can.

If you have studied history this is the norm for left wing politics. It is all about winning in the moment. So heroes of the past will become villains overnight if need be for the politics of the moment. This of course can all change and in the future Chavez could once again be hero. To be fair it is not just left wing politics that do this.

The legislature will rename it Farmworkers Day and the bones and deeds of Chavez will become dust in the wind. Politics can have a short memory when needed.

"The legislature will rename it Farmworkers Day "

It has to be the right kind of farmworkers. Back in the 50s-70s it was lot of US citizens of Mexican ancestry that worked farms. Chavez was essentially a union guy for them and saw illegal immigrants as essentially scabs.

The issue today is to increase illegal immigration, therefore Chavez is on the wrong side of history now and had to get buried. Farm worker day is too specific you. You need "migrant rights day" or "migrant visibility day" .

None of this is new, you just need to read Orwell. "Chavez has always been a bad guy"

"Who controls the present controls the past".
