Give it to Ukraine?

Why are we increasing the NNSA budget by billions? We could give that money to Ukraine to fight Russia.

Retention bonus

With LLNS desperate for employees they have given out retention bonuses to key employees working on select projects. The rumor is only 1/2 of the employees received this bonus. With moral so low how do they think the other half of the employees will take it?

I am guessing it will turn out like when some of the trades were allowed to work on Davis-Bacon work and others (former employees now) and others were not. Or like when some employees were working “unlimited “ overtime and others were not allowed to work any. I think two guys who worked together for 30 years got into a fist fight over that one.

LLNL lessons learned

Have any of the National Labs adopted an anonymous "lessons learned" framework to openly review and address the impacts of an employee's state of well being (defined as comfortable, healthy, and happy), in the work environment while still adhering to HIPAA requirements?

There are many projects at LLNL, where employees are exposed to chronic and acute high levels of stress on a daily basis. Unfortunately, these stresses may lead to sadness, depression, helplessness, high blood pressure, heart attacks, substance abuse, etc.

LLNL has frequent "lessons learned" in print and on our internal Lab website to openly review employee injuries like, mixing incompatible materials, electrocutions/shock, etc., usually a result of not precisely following an established work/safety procedure. The goal of the "lessons learned" is to prevent future injury and or facility damage. Such accidents may be considered defendable from a liability perspective since the employee or employees, may not have followed an established work/safety procedure.

To my knowledge there is no "lessons learned" like transparent process at the Labs to openly review and address workplace, stress, harassment, bullying, and abuse that may lead to material employee health issues. HIPAA compliance while important to protect the individuals identity, should not serve as tool to avoid either the consequences for failure to provide an environment that promotes workforce well being or contractor liability.

Who is next?

I am saddened by the multitude of massacres happening all over the country.

Today,  it is in Uvalde, TX. Tomorrow in ? As a massacre takes place,  we hear prayers from GOP representatives and senators.

Their ideological and therefore blind commitment to owning firearms with no control is the cause. How many times has the President and democratic leaders reassured them that the 2nd amendment will be preserved and that the goal is to avoid senseless massacres?

Why would someone need an AK or an AR to hunt or to defend themselves?

Why would GOP blindness cost the lives of so many?

Who are the next victims?

I ask that everyone who visits the blog to flood their senators and reps with demands to revisit the issue.

The massacres will not stop. We just don't know who is next!

Safety questions arise as Los Alamos National Laboratory pursues pit production.

The comment section is filled the Mello and Coglan going at each other. These guys head the Los Alamos Study Group and the Nuclear Watch Group. I know these guys do not get along but it seems it has amped up the past few years and now they are just going...nuclear on each other!!!! It is like LANL is not really the focus it is all just saying the other side is are liars and dishonest. I am not sure what is going on but I suspect it may have something to do with money and a big donor having to choose. I could just picture Mello " I would rathe the world be destroyed and turned into a nuclear wasteland than let Coghlan win!!!!!.
