Actual post from Dec. 15 from one of the streams. This is a real topic. As far as promoting women and minorities even if their qualifications are not as good as the white male scientists, I am all for it. We need diversity at the lab and if that is what it takes, so be it. Quit your whining. Look around the lab, what do you see? White male geezers. How many African Americans do you see at the lab? Virtually none. LLNL is one of the MOST undiverse places you will see. Face it folks, LLNL is an institution of white male privilege and they don't want to give up their privileged positions. California, a state of majority Hispanics has the "crown jewel" LLNL nestled in the middle of it with very FEW Hispanics at all!

I've also been wondering what they are doing since I'm a paying member, but maybe not for much longer!
It's time to hit the reset button and find something better. Scientists over at JPL seem to be well supported by their union:

Scientists sue NASA, Caltech over deep new background checks - AP Aug 30, 2007
PASADENA, California: Jet Propulsion Laboratory scientists and engineers sued NASA and the California Institute of Technology on Thursday, challenging extensive new background checks that the space exploration center and other federal agencies began requiring in the wake of the Sept. 11 terror attacks.
We now operate under a completely different set of laws, and adjusting to this is not automatic. Despite collecting dues, SPSE is a member-run union, and there are a handful of members doing all the work. We're grateful to everyone who sends us good ideas, but what we really need now is a few interested members to get involved and act on them. In my opinion SPSE has succeeded best when a member with a passion for something gets involved, gets help, and gets it accomplished. As for status, you will see another Sentinel sometime soon. I know because I'm editing the thing. Sure, the web page needs updating. If this bothers you, then stop complaining and volunteer to help with it. JW
This is no different than our election process. Don't vote, you have nothing to say about what occurs. Protest and expel the trash from the Washington DC or any position deemed corrupt and you'll see change. The problem is, everyone says they don't have time and there's no use. Life is to short for me to bother. So what's next?
