All of the recent media broadcasts and articles are blaming Congressional budgets and Nuclear Site Complex streamlining. They are negligent in not mentioning the extra $200-300M every year that was lost to the budget due to the needless transition to LLNS. These new costs include (1) payment of state sales tax in going from a non-profit to profit organization, (2) added employee matching that was needed to compensate for the less uncertain pension benefits in the new organization, and (3) paying for the roughly 40 new LLNS highly paid managers that were brought in. This does not include the distraction of management and employees from their work that is caused by this new transition.

Of course. They don't want the public to know that their cost cutting plan entailed hiring 40 more managers making anywhere from $230K to $400K a year on top of the already bunch of top heavy cronies we had at LLNL and that the cost cutting scheme was only a avenue to redirecting big buck to Bechtel Corporation, a firm who has their hands deep in the pockets of those in Washington DC. The entire transition is a scam to make big business richer and to build up ULM's pension plans who're on their last few years to early retirement; again on the backs of the people that actually do the work.

The entire transition should be investigated and those 17 pages of ULM prosecuted if found guilty of any shenanigans. Then they need to do time and I'm not talking about a white collar prison but instead introduced to Throne.

Hey there 8:44am, I'm tired of you spewing about "17 pages of ULM"

I think we should all call the media and task them to correct the mistakes in their articles . Once it appears in the media several times, people take it as fact.

Read the disclaimer. It clearly says this is a blog about opinions, feelings, etc and some or non of it may be true. The post are clearly and indication of peoples feelings and thoughts, so there you go. It's a real shame when people think, or should I saythe thinking is caused by lack of information and a lot is distrust.

It's all downhill from here. Enjoy the wild ride! If you're smart, you'll find some way to bail out before the stress and fear of working for LLNS and Bechtel puts you 6 feet under. Remember, these people runnning LLNS don't give a shit about you, regardless of what they may say. They only care about grabbing what they can before this train falls off the tracks. If you stay, you're looking at 2% raises and continuous cuts in your benefits while inflation ramps up to much higher levels. LLNL is no place to plan a career any longer. You can do better if you're smart, both in terms of work environment and in terms of future compensation.

Hello January 21, 2008 2:57 PM!
When we have 4000 employees left, would they be considered the best?
Not a chance! Therefore, LLNS will not be able to meet the requirement of "retaining and attracting the best". Who know DOE/NNSA will probably waive that.
I and many people are actively looking for other oppotunities and will drop LLNS at the drop of a hat!

Plutonium Shots on NIF.

Tri-Valley Cares needs to be on this if they aren't already. We need to make sure that NNSA and LLNL does not make good on promises to pursue such stupid ideas as doing Plutonium experiments on NIF. The stupidity arises from the fact that a huge population is placed at risk in the short and long term. Why do this kind of experiment in a heavily populated area? Only a moron would push that kind of imbecile area. Do it somewhere else in the god forsaken hills of Los Alamos. Why should the communities in the Bay Area be subjected to such increased risk just because the lab's NIF has failed twice and is trying the Hail Mary pass of doing an SNM experiment just to justify their existence? Those Laser EoS techniques and the people analyzing the raw data are all just BAD anyways. You know what comes next after they do the experiment. They'll figure out that they need larger samples. More risk for the local population. Stop this imbecilic pursuit. They wan...

Trump is to gut the labs.

The budget has a 20% decrease to DOE office of science, 20% cut to NIH. NASA also gets a cut. This will  have a huge negative effect on the lab. Crazy, juts crazy. He also wants to cut NEA and PBS, this may not seem like  a big deal but they get very little money and do great things.

LLNL un-diversity

Actual post from Dec. 15 from one of the streams. This is a real topic. As far as promoting women and minorities even if their qualifications are not as good as the white male scientists, I am all for it. We need diversity at the lab and if that is what it takes, so be it.  Quit your whining. Look around the lab, what do you see? White male geezers. How many African Americans do you see at the lab? Virtually none. LLNL is one of the MOST undiverse places you will see. Face it folks, LLNL is an institution of white male privilege and they don't want to give up their privileged positions. California, a state of majority Hispanics has the "crown jewel" LLNL nestled in the middle of it with very FEW Hispanics at all!
