LANL BLOG blocked!

Do you believe this? The LANL was reported "blocked" for access from within lanl.gov.
I would not be surprised if LLNS does the same to our BLOG.
This is when Doobydew and I need your support!
If we are blocked, we should all write and ask questions.
Below is the LANL post reporting the blocking:

Well, it looks to me like LANS has everything under control here. They've even added a new web content filter to "secure" LANL staff from reading the blog from the lanl.gov domain. Pinky, I think LANL management is afraid of you.

Staff, however, don't seem to much care one way or another that the blog is being blocked, which is why I'm bugging out and leaving you again comfortably in charge.

Pinky, I want to thank you for doing such a fine job in running your blog, and for letting me put in my two cents every now and then. Good luck in running this puppy for whatever the remainder of its life will be; I'm sure you will do just fine with it on your own.

Likewise, good luck to the few remaining LANL staff whom I know that still work there. LANL is a changed place. I hope those of you who remain there enjoy the new management and work environment, but I am certainly glad that I am no longer work up on the hill.

Cheers,

-Gus

I think Gus had a few too many beers before he posted that...it is a bit melodramatic. More likely he got tired of blogging. I don't blame him..it must be hard work to read all the troll posts and negativity.

As for the blocking, posts after that stated they can get though again. Minor glitch perhaps.

We started getting traffic again from lanl.gov around mid morning yesterday.

As for Gus, I think he states plainly enough that staff apathy is what frustrated him. I don't think beer had anything to do with it at 7:21 AM. And he still reads the blog and all the nasty comments, so I doubt they had anything to do with his decision either.

If management was smart they'd leave the blog available for everyone to read and open for comment from any location. It's the only avenue the people have to be able to tell it like it is without fear of retaliation and punishment for their entire careers, as it is now if you were to state your issues to ULM or as far as that goes LLM. It's also a great place for management to see what people are saying about the organization, projects, people and management tactics. There's no class or seminar that ULM could hold that would provide them with this type of information, so again it would be to their benefit to let the blog ride and evolve into what ever it may. For sure ULM will realize what people think of them and how little respect they have among the working people and that's the beauty of it all. It's the perfect avenue for people to vent verbally instead of physically. It hard enough to have to come to work everyday and work along side people you dislike. Why not give the people a vent.

It's a lousy blog anyway. Probably doing everyone a favor by blocking it.

Plutonium Shots on NIF.

Tri-Valley Cares needs to be on this if they aren't already. We need to make sure that NNSA and LLNL does not make good on promises to pursue such stupid ideas as doing Plutonium experiments on NIF. The stupidity arises from the fact that a huge population is placed at risk in the short and long term. Why do this kind of experiment in a heavily populated area? Only a moron would push that kind of imbecile area. Do it somewhere else in the god forsaken hills of Los Alamos. Why should the communities in the Bay Area be subjected to such increased risk just because the lab's NIF has failed twice and is trying the Hail Mary pass of doing an SNM experiment just to justify their existence? Those Laser EoS techniques and the people analyzing the raw data are all just BAD anyways. You know what comes next after they do the experiment. They'll figure out that they need larger samples. More risk for the local population. Stop this imbecilic pursuit. They wan...

Trump is to gut the labs.

The budget has a 20% decrease to DOE office of science, 20% cut to NIH. NASA also gets a cut. This will  have a huge negative effect on the lab. Crazy, juts crazy. He also wants to cut NEA and PBS, this may not seem like  a big deal but they get very little money and do great things.

LLNL un-diversity

Actual post from Dec. 15 from one of the streams. This is a real topic. As far as promoting women and minorities even if their qualifications are not as good as the white male scientists, I am all for it. We need diversity at the lab and if that is what it takes, so be it.  Quit your whining. Look around the lab, what do you see? White male geezers. How many African Americans do you see at the lab? Virtually none. LLNL is one of the MOST undiverse places you will see. Face it folks, LLNL is an institution of white male privilege and they don't want to give up their privileged positions. California, a state of majority Hispanics has the "crown jewel" LLNL nestled in the middle of it with very FEW Hispanics at all!
