Any one care to rank LLNS like they did LANS. Here's LANS Evaluation. Can't wait to see how LLNS comes out.
Tri-Valley Cares needs to be on this if they aren't already. We need to make sure that NNSA and LLNL does not make good on promises to pursue such stupid ideas as doing Plutonium experiments on NIF. The stupidity arises from the fact that a huge population is placed at risk in the short and long term. Why do this kind of experiment in a heavily populated area? Only a moron would push that kind of imbecile area. Do it somewhere else in the god forsaken hills of Los Alamos. Why should the communities in the Bay Area be subjected to such increased risk just because the lab's NIF has failed twice and is trying the Hail Mary pass of doing an SNM experiment just to justify their existence? Those Laser EoS techniques and the people analyzing the raw data are all just BAD anyways. You know what comes next after they do the experiment. They'll figure out that they need larger samples. More risk for the local population. Stop this imbecilic pursuit. They wan...

It is for the public's eye.
It has more deputies than Alameda County's sheriff dept.
No managers are going to go, but what you are saying is true through-out the entire lab all the way to the top. UC was 150% staffed with ULM and it was my hopes that that number would be cut by 75%, but, what did they do. Hired 40 more morons at $200K -$400K plus salaries.
But I think 1:50 PM meant the worker bees in LC. Huge amounts of stress and crazy politics imposed from on high. It's a miracle they keep those big machines running so well without going insane. The folks that run the little stuff too, like email and an instant message system they came up with. They took time to help me get it all working smoothly. Not dead wood in my book.
You wanted change, expected to get it simply by cutting management by 50%, but are incensed that some new blood was brought in to help drive change. No you're right, keeping 1/2 of the team that you're so proud of would definitely be better than a different perspective. By the way, do you happen to know any of the “morons”? I work for one, pretty sure he/she (not giving it away) doesn’t make $200-$400K, he/she does have years of demonstrated experience with DOE (and yes, they’ve held a Q form most of those years) and given a chance could probably help make this a better place. From my observations however, that chance doesn’t seem to be available. Can’t imagine why, can you? (No, I haven’t gone over to the “dark side.” Just forced to put a face on one of your morons, only to discover that I like what I see.)
The change you speak of will come only after the entire complex is destroyed and LLNS has replaced all of the FTE with "their " people which is what's going on now. Maybe someday LLNL will work on something other than weapons and homeland security which I suspect will "all" go away with the next president. The scare tactics used to make this monster will just not be there any more. However, I think the tactic of "fire and replace" as if though you were a mis-spelled word in a MS word document is not the answer. I think LLNS needs to lay out what projects we are going to be working on. If you tell me that LLNS doesn't have a defined list of WFO, then the contract should have never been awarded and we should still be under UC.
As it stands now people at LLNL come to work each day with the understanding that "today" may be your last day of employment. There is no stability and no hope. Everyone is wondering from day to day, who will be the next person sent out the gate and their careers destroyed. And then finally, no one I know "trust LLNS" or ULM any further than they can spit.
So, there you go. NNSA / DOE have successfully destroyed everything that UC made in 50 years in less than 1 year. Good job. I think I'll raise the contract incentive fee for FY-09.
The bottomline is, that face has one hell of a job to do but I doubt it will be very easy with what they have done, especially in the face of all those who's lives he/she has destroyed.
