I started seeing people being hung up on the comments I delete after the fact.
If they violate posted blog rules, you bet I am going to delete them.
Comments about why I delete comments are, by their very nature, off topic and will too be deleted.
Don't bother making such comments. Instead, recommend a new post and let people comment on your post.

I disagree with you, as soon as it goes off topic it should be cut.
What is your point by the way? You sound like one of those clueless science types who thinks they are so smart. Lets see how your science smarts helps you when the dollar collapses.

Maybe he knows how to grow is own food, maybe he knows how live of the land, maybe he knows how fix real things, maybe knows how to take care of himself and not live off the government. Maybe he had do real things with his life like serve in the military, maybe he had to work for a living, and maybe he is brighter than you.

Angry, paranoid people who live in caves and hunt their own food went out of style in the 18th century. Nowadays, the food you grow is contaminated from the soil and air, the game you hunt has fed on toxic waste, the mercury in the fish you catch will kill you, and without your blood pressure medication you will die soon. "Fix real things"? Like what, your '57 DeSoto? Or your modern car whose computer you can't access and that has nothing you can service yourself? Besides, why is all your stuff broken? Guess what? Some really highly educated people also served in the military and were your superiors. Everyone should have self-respect, but your disdain for education in others shows you to be extremely insecure. I bet your wife and kids just love your attitude towards other people. Oh, wait, don't have those? Not surprised.
Back to a LLNL topic. What is up with the Directors search? I have heard they are down to a final 4 but have not made a firm choice for either place yet. The new person has to start in about 3 weeks at LANL.
I suspect, however, that is is not just off-topic comments, but the ill thought out off topic comments, that are getting the axe.

I think you are wrong - the stuff that goes off-topic is usually a result of a poster who has a serious, deep-seated axe to grind, and is looking for some thread that he (she) can claim, at least to himself (herself) is a valid opening to that particular skewed version of reality. The established topic is only a weak vehicle to where the poster really wants to go. Many other blog venues suffer the same thing. On any well-populated blog, there are the known one-trick ponies who can't comment without airing their own peculiar rants. On most reputable blogs, the moderators are ruthless in culling these distractions, but on others (Yahoo News is the prime example), they remain rampant. It is a poison resulting from today's implementation of the internet. It used to be a bit of an inconvenience to actually write to the editor of a newspaper to comment on a story or column, now it is just a mouse click away to vent your best, or worst, thoughts. Public discourse is not better for the technological advances.
"ill thought out to the relevant discussion" comments.
LLNL is a heavy topic, especially those who were involved with the darker aspects of the lab. A moderator can do whatever they want, and I'm fine with it, because they carry such a heavy burden to have to read all this negative thought day after day."

More for me.
Best to start over. New blog, relevant topics, and control the trolls.
