I kind of hope they win, all those employees get their jobs back with full back pay and retirement and it all comes out of LLNS operational funds this year. This along with 142M in taxes due, 88M to the TCP-1 and a 30M + reduction in 2013 operational funds plus Diane Feinstien wanting to cut LLNL budget to give it to Chu for his new lab in Richmod, Ca should create a very big VSIP or RIF. get-r-done

This scumbag ambulance chaser who has been a Lab bloodsucker for 15 years was brought in by the union. And how does this benefit their members? The last commenter was correct--if this parasite gets his way the next TCPI contribution will look like chump change in comparison to what this guy will collect for himself all out of Lab operating funds. No way for the Lab to survive.

Where do I start.
Unions gave money to Democratic politicians to get a prevailing wage law passed in California. Now on ANY gov't job such as a school or a water plant or a city hall the wage is $70-80 an hour.
The reason this insane law was passed is because a Union contractor cannot compete against a merit (non union) contractor because the non union contractor pays their people on merit $30-50 an hour and can get the job because they obviously pay their people less and can bid less. Now a days a Union contractor can never get a private job because they cannot compete. SO their only recourse is to pump money ($80 m for Jerry Brown) into the Democratic Party to get favorable rules so they can stay on the public tit.
How about Public School Unions and you cannot fire a bad teacher or lay off a bad one because of union rules. That is the real tragedy in our schools, not lack of money. YOU CANNOT FIRE A BAD TEACHER TEACHING OUR CHILDREN!!!!!!!!!!!!!Do you get it.
Just think of all the extra cost for public construction jobs. They cost twice as much because of the $80 an hour wages and I know a guy who changes light bulbs on the San Mateo bridge $115 an hour because of union rules. WHy is the state broke. Well besides entitlements these 2x construction costs are hurting us. Then a union drone has some of their wages go to union dues that then go to the Democratic party and then they get to suck on the government teet some more.

Anymore questions?

Yes, yes. But don't forget that unions are all that stand between workers and chains and whips, child labor, 18-hour work days, no benefits, and slave wages. We need all those fat union bosses with their fancy houses, cars, and suits! Otherwise we won't be able to retire after 20 years at full salary!

Unions are subject to abuse just like any human institution. I do recall how members of the AFL-CIO ran amok on Wall Street and tubed the financial system. Public safety unions often support Republican candidates unless the writing is clearly on the wall.

Unions are a power center like large corporations and other "constituencies". They gave us Saturdays off, but I readily admit it is a shame that firing a bad teacher is such a travail. (I would love to have data on percentage of bad teachers versus percentage of inattentive parents though.) And we have all seen folks shuffled around our respective non-union organizations rather than getting shown the door.

Yes I do agree with May 20, 2012 11:47 AM.
So I don.t think most people are saying Unions must go (I think everyone agrees how corrupt they are) but the Unions need some added rules (like Wall Street also).
If I were a Union employee (and I was at a past employer)
I would take exception with my dues going to the Democratic Party because I am against abortion
(killing a baby 1 minute before birth) so #1 rule would be if I could veto my dues being used for politics. #2 would be that I am not forced to dues taken out of my paycheck. How about a right to work state (1/2 the country is a right to work state) where I cannot be forced to be in a Union. What's wrong with that. I think the Unions were good in their time but definitely need some adjustments as does Wall Street.

Okay...I get it. But do you have specifics about LLNL's union ?
Anonymous said…
yes I do.
I was told by two Plant employees that at the first meeting when the Union was trying to get into the Lab they asked the employees (Plant Eng.) to fill out cards "for information only'.
Well it turned out that those were really Union check cards (voting) and that employees were really voting for a Union and it just barely was voted in.
SCAMMERS!!!!
Is that specific enough about the Lab union and how corrupt unions inherently are.
Anymore question?

Well I hope the department where you pump the gas, get your cars and trucks fixed aren't part of the union. I here come Oct 2012 they're being contracted out. I guess all we'll have be are the gas pumps.

Warning: We have an English Troll on this site.

The good news is, we can confuse the troll by keeping our words spelled incorrectly.
Anonymous said…
Wait - proper English is a bad thing?? When did that happen? So now effective communication is to be sneered at? Effective education too? Surprising for a blog supposedly about one of the greatest scientific and intellectual organizations in the world. It may explain a lot.

The person is not a troll just a pissy scientist. No wonder everyone hates the so called "brillint scienetits", all they do at the labs is whine and bitch. You are in a copererate world now, you are not special, shut up and do your jobs.

The sad fact is that no one on this blog has a sense of humor. So much petty strife, so little perspective on life. If I were Scooby, I'd give it up and go fishing.

Back to the original post - did anyone who passed by the rally care to comment on what they saw?

Has it boosted the interest in joining a union?

Did it poison the jury pool?

As an aside, I always thought that protests that blocked people from getting into work would get drivers irate whereas blocking people from going home, well that's just dangerous for a protester.
Anonymous said…
was there even a rally? perhaps a new post topic to see if it was a success would be good. There are too many sidetopics on this thread, I doubt a protester would read through all of them even if they found this blog.

I doubt a protester knows how to read.

Plutonium Shots on NIF.

Tri-Valley Cares needs to be on this if they aren't already. We need to make sure that NNSA and LLNL does not make good on promises to pursue such stupid ideas as doing Plutonium experiments on NIF. The stupidity arises from the fact that a huge population is placed at risk in the short and long term. Why do this kind of experiment in a heavily populated area? Only a moron would push that kind of imbecile area. Do it somewhere else in the god forsaken hills of Los Alamos. Why should the communities in the Bay Area be subjected to such increased risk just because the lab's NIF has failed twice and is trying the Hail Mary pass of doing an SNM experiment just to justify their existence? Those Laser EoS techniques and the people analyzing the raw data are all just BAD anyways. You know what comes next after they do the experiment. They'll figure out that they need larger samples. More risk for the local population. Stop this imbecilic pursuit. They wan...

Trump is to gut the labs.

The budget has a 20% decrease to DOE office of science, 20% cut to NIH. NASA also gets a cut. This will  have a huge negative effect on the lab. Crazy, juts crazy. He also wants to cut NEA and PBS, this may not seem like  a big deal but they get very little money and do great things.

LLNL un-diversity

Actual post from Dec. 15 from one of the streams. This is a real topic. As far as promoting women and minorities even if their qualifications are not as good as the white male scientists, I am all for it. We need diversity at the lab and if that is what it takes, so be it.  Quit your whining. Look around the lab, what do you see? White male geezers. How many African Americans do you see at the lab? Virtually none. LLNL is one of the MOST undiverse places you will see. Face it folks, LLNL is an institution of white male privilege and they don't want to give up their privileged positions. California, a state of majority Hispanics has the "crown jewel" LLNL nestled in the middle of it with very FEW Hispanics at all!
