Sandia Lab layoffs?

Anonymously contributed: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sandia has been undergoing Total Comp-- a means of defining and benchmarking job descriptions and job families to the market. For the most part, most non-represented exempt employees saw their pay bands lowered. Now, all the overhead functions are being functionally aligned, and the rumor is, that redundancies will identified and layoffs will happen before the end of the fiscal year. Have you heard any other rumors like this?

Hey, if they can trim the fat, than more power to them. But I'm afraid trimming the fat is like liposuction on that 800 pound British teenager that needed a wall removed to get her out of the bedroom.

The whole nuclear weapons lab complex is getting ready to shrink.

If you think the 12% reduction in staff at LANL this year was bad, you ain't seen nuth'in yet!

You guys are in for some "real changes" on this so called "restructuring" at Livermore and Sandia, We went through the same "exercise" at Los Alamos. The main purpose of this is to reduce or freeze staff salaries with these so called "bands". In my case and several of my buddies, it's been 5-years since we've received a base pay salary increase. It's a method to ensure there's money for LANS's priority, more money for Management raises and bonuses from the raise pool. Clever, huh!

Yes, but you write like that's a bad thing. There are legions of overpaid worker drones because there are insufficient pay bands for say, a second rate IT guy. Hopefully with this change, they will cut your pay 70% down to market rates so I can get back to doing the lab's real work without being sucked dry.

NNSA made it clear in 2007 when they rolled out "Complex 2030" that the future weapons complex would have far fewer employees. The goal was to reduce the headcount by around 30% and to cut both benefits and pay.

That headcount reduction is now happening with the NNSA lab layoffs.

Vote with your feet!

When you are not being paid what you are worth,
and the Light at the End of the Tunnel is an Oncoming Train, the smart employees get out of there!

Eventually this is a big problem for Bechtel, because the only ones left are those who can't make it on the outside. But if Bechtel doesn't value the work, maybe they don't see it as a problem?

Q. What do new people looking for a job think about LLN as a place to work?

Sounds like a plan, until you realize you've devoted your life to a skill that's unemployable outside the NNSA complex or a third world dictatorship.
