Umm, I got a better idea for "surviving LLNL in an era of shrinking pay": GET A FRIGGIN' NEW JOB.

Last time I checked, LLNL was pretty close to Silicon Valley.

Oh, and don't forget to give them the middle finger on your way out.

Comrades,
The collective has asked that the common worker attend the indoctrination meeting to join the collective.

The evil corporate entity known as the Lab that has provided our gainful employment and food for our families cannot be trusted comrades.

Join commissar Rikki Gay (who for some reason dislikes the Laboratory?) and we will hand out information cards (ssshhh!!! comrade, really voting for union cards)and we really want union high school dropouts to help capitalist Dr. Parney to run the Laboratory because he needs the help from the uneducated union collective.

So meet with us comrades and we will fight (the hand that feeds us) the evil capitalist and our motto will be Socialism for all (don't forget our free Obama cell phones, if we are going to be part of the Entitlement society, Oh like Switzerland and Cypress).

We understand that you do not have the intelligence to negotiate your wages so we will do that for you but Oh lest we forget please vote Democratic to keep the Socialist cycle going (and do not worry about those payments (50% of intake at some point) to pay for the national debt, our children can take care of that)/

But under no circumstances take ant personal responsibility for yourselves but leave it to the Union collective comrade, let us think for you (too big of a responsibility for you!!!!).

No surprise that security is heavily unionized - many high school drop-outs and an acting director that acts like one.

Vote the socialists (progressive liberals) out of office starting at the top

Any truth to the security rumors around the lab that she and her boss are together?

So am not an expert but I think the Lab needs to check up on the "Persuader" rule.
People can no longer just "talk" with people to get them to join or not join the union. If you do, you have to claim the income and it is posted on the web.
This might help to get this Union hack and Democratic hack to shut up and go away...........

Interesting article.
When a state becomes a "Right to Work" state (over 20 some states) look what happens when people have a "CHOICE" to join a union and are not forced to like at MUSD!!!!

http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2013/04/09/Steep-Decline-in-Wisconsin-Public-Union-Membership

It is a fact that >50% of people would drop out of a union given the choice.
What can a union hack say about that?

So California is $160B in debt that can never be paid. Do yopu notice the Right to Work states (like Texas +$8b) generally have a SURPLUS........hmmmmm! Interesting they are not paying union 20-30% more for School construction and Public works projects.

It must be a coincidence that these non union states are prosperous (lol).

If you think the Lab is difficult to do Science at now, what would it look like with a union?

Ahh, a union basher. Now you can go back to watching Fox, and let grown ups discuss the topic, which is
"surviving at LLNL in an Era of shrinking Take Home Pay"
Got it? Has nothing to do with unions, unless you believe that unions help with getting better pay.
So why are you starting a rant on Unions? Are you afraid of something? Like all homophobic people who turn out to just be closet gay people.

Did you read the post??????????

"Hello, SPSE-UPTE would like to invite you"

"Has nothing to do with unions"??"?"????????????????

Did you graduate from high school?
It sure sounds like an invitation to become a union drone to me.

Though it is nice to hear from a union hack,
most of the uneducated drones cannot think or negotiate for themselves.

You have some cred the rest of the collective is hiding, Comrade.

It is an indisputable fact that when union members are given a choice (like in a right to work state) that 30-50% leave the union and do not allow dues to be taken out of their paycheck.

Why in the world would I be forced to join a union if I do not support them?

Why can't I have a choice?

I do not personally care if my coworker would like to be in a union (and pay for it) but I strongly object if my coworker is going to force me to join and have dues taken out of my paycheck!

That generally doesn't happen unless you bend over. Try to avoid that.

Unions destroy organizations when the perverse incentives favor themselves and even favor management in many cases, over the long term viability and competitiveness of the organization.

That doesn't apply to the national labs. They are not being out-competed out of existence. Total wage costs are high because management is top heavy and in most cases, management salaries are outrageously high for the kinds of responsibilities they take on. On top of that, they keep getting funding that is driven by political will, not because they fail compared to the other labs. LLNL competing against LANL? That's fail vs. fail competition. Both keep getting showered with money anyways, because they are just too big to fail, DC has no political stomach to let one or both implode. The "destruction" of the labs (via erosion of funding) is brought upon by perverse incentives due to the ABSENCE of competition.

When you look at LLNL's business model to double down on NIF? Is that a viable strategy after missing the alpha heating milestone? You have to be a complete moron to try that kind of tactic in industry, to sell off smaller profitable, reliable and viable business lines to be able to throw more resources at your loss leader (which is not really a leader if your only competition is LLE and the French). They do it because they are playing a game of chicken with DC. What is the Union's role in this fail business strategy? None.

The Unions nearly destroyed the auto industry because management could bend and and get beaten into agreeing to going along with major concessions knowing that their retirement was just around the corner. As a result, other global automakers were able to out-compete US automakers and draw market share.

Maybe you mean to say that Unions helped the economy collapse and the reduced tax base is ending up hurting the lab through squeeze in funding. Unions do their part in some cases (like above) to hurt the economy. But I'm pretty sure that the current economic problems right now were caused by participants (home buyer speculators, mortgage finance industry, securities traders, securities structurers, securities buyers, regulators, securities ratings agencies, etc. etc.) in the financial sector.

Plutonium Shots on NIF.

Tri-Valley Cares needs to be on this if they aren't already. We need to make sure that NNSA and LLNL does not make good on promises to pursue such stupid ideas as doing Plutonium experiments on NIF. The stupidity arises from the fact that a huge population is placed at risk in the short and long term. Why do this kind of experiment in a heavily populated area? Only a moron would push that kind of imbecile area. Do it somewhere else in the god forsaken hills of Los Alamos. Why should the communities in the Bay Area be subjected to such increased risk just because the lab's NIF has failed twice and is trying the Hail Mary pass of doing an SNM experiment just to justify their existence? Those Laser EoS techniques and the people analyzing the raw data are all just BAD anyways. You know what comes next after they do the experiment. They'll figure out that they need larger samples. More risk for the local population. Stop this imbecilic pursuit. They wan...

Trump is to gut the labs.

The budget has a 20% decrease to DOE office of science, 20% cut to NIH. NASA also gets a cut. This will  have a huge negative effect on the lab. Crazy, juts crazy. He also wants to cut NEA and PBS, this may not seem like  a big deal but they get very little money and do great things.

LLNL un-diversity

Actual post from Dec. 15 from one of the streams. This is a real topic. As far as promoting women and minorities even if their qualifications are not as good as the white male scientists, I am all for it. We need diversity at the lab and if that is what it takes, so be it.  Quit your whining. Look around the lab, what do you see? White male geezers. How many African Americans do you see at the lab? Virtually none. LLNL is one of the MOST undiverse places you will see. Face it folks, LLNL is an institution of white male privilege and they don't want to give up their privileged positions. California, a state of majority Hispanics has the "crown jewel" LLNL nestled in the middle of it with very FEW Hispanics at all!
