The stupidity arises from the fact that a huge population is placed at risk in the short and long term. Why do this kind of experiment in a heavily populated area? Only a moron would push that kind of imbecile area. Do it somewhere else in the god forsaken hills of Los Alamos. Why should the communities in the Bay Area be subjected to such increased risk just because the lab's NIF has failed twice and is trying the Hail Mary pass of doing an SNM experiment just to justify their existence? Those Laser EoS techniques and the people analyzing the raw data are all just BAD anyways. You know what comes next after they do the experiment. They'll figure out that they need larger samples. The author seems to have a bit of hyperbole to his writing, perhaps he should be working for NIF.
The good news is those who took the SSVSP are very happy they are gone I'll assure you leaving LLNL managed by Rectal cut throats who will be administering a good dose of VSP in the near future. The good news is the VSP's will get unemployment while the SSVSP can not. Which ever way you go make sure you are 100% out of debt.
Therefore, employee' s fate will essentially depends on the like or dislike of individual supervisor/manager. If they don't like you, they will trump up all the unfavorable comments/charges against you. It will become the basis to lay you off for lak of funds or lack of skills. It is very unsettled for those who remain at the Lab.
The fact is that Parney does not plan to have any lay off does not matter, because individual directorate can do it based on the revised lay off policy.
