I just received my annual TCP-1 letter from LLNS and a summary of the LLNS Pension Plan. Looked in pretty good shape in 2013. About 35% overfunded (funding target attainment percentage = 134.92%). This was a decrease from 2012 where it was 51% overfunded (funding target attainment percentage = 151.59%). They did note that the 2012 change in the law on how liabilities are calculated using interest rates improved the plan's position. Without the change the funding target attainment percentages would have been 118% (2012) and 105% (2013). 2013 assets = $2,057,866,902 2013 liabilities = $1,525,162,784 vs 2012 assets = $1,844,924,947 2012 liabilities = $1,217,043,150 It was also noted that a slightly different calculation method ("fair market value") designed to show a clearer picture of the plan' status as December 31, 2013 had; Assets = $2,403,098,433 Liabilities = $2,068,984,256 Funding ratio = 116.15% Its a closed plan with 3,781 participants. Of that number, 3,151 wer...

" Tim Shepodd (8223) liked the moniker and agreed to call it the “chili cookoff.” But there was no chili involved, and the only “cooking” had to do with the kind of chemicals not usually found on Sandia grounds. "
This type of work should be sequestered!
Isn't it juvenile of calling this short-lived project a "chili cookoff" and even more juvenile of publicizing it in the press!

It is sad that you have no sense of humor. Or, are you a snob? Lighten up - a bit of repartee among friends never hurt anyone. I'm not sure that the above exchanges actually qualify as 'repartee' but what is really sad is smart people who are successful being unable to enjoy life. One of the reasons we have multiple good laboratories is to challenge each other and hopefully thereby inspire us to greatness ... talking a bit of good-natured smack is not as tragic as you make it out to be. It is common in other walks of life - especially in the military. Please try to enjoy yourself a bit more, because if you can't laugh at life, it will drive you nuts. Good luck.
Not in the present day military. More likely to be found on the sports fields of high schools.

Disingenuous. That's not what this is, and you know it. It's a far worse political and scientific back-biting and shadow-dancing agenda that threatens both labs' reputations. Just stop it.
Terrible waste is correct!
It's the bitter EOS troll again!
Somebody adopted a stupid name for a DoD project. It must be because those nasty EOS guys lied, cheated, stole, and committed beastiality.
Some overworked bottom-end working stiff trying to get their project done has never been the problem, or the financial solution, at the labs.
Oddly enough though they always take one for the team.

You've already admitted you have no idea what "EOS" means, so why not shut up and stop being the troll here?
No, LLNL has been tossing out that 2.5B+ number around... for the past 3 years! Actually i think their cost estimate is shrinking!

No, I'm just sick & tired of EVERY thread being turned to EOS. I get it: the Bitter EOS Troll has some axe to grind...probably got asked to get out of Ed Moses' chair or something. How about NOT grinding it once in a while?
Give it up already!
Geez. Get a life.
It stinks to high heaven!

Some people should not be allowed access to computers.
