This is one example of why LANL will remain a for profit operation that
pays tax into the local accounts. A ten fold increase in salary for the
four positions in the story will be hard to come by if the county lost
65M$ or thereabouts in tax revenue.

NNSA couldn't care less about LA County revenue, and LA County has no dog in the fight when it is contract rebid time.
Nope but the state loves the money and you bet they will make their voice heard.
Who do they think is going to hear and be able to do anything about it? Most of the American public doesn't even know New Mexico exists, let alone care about what anyone here thinks about anything.
Do not kid yourself. The State congressional delegation has a huge say in the contracts and funding to the laboratories. Do you remember uncle Pete?
Given that 4 out of the 5 NM congressional delegation are liberal democrats, be careful what you wish for.
