"Failing"? What cutting wit.
Remember the highly successful NIF.......
Dr. John Murray (Cherry Murray's nine year old brother pictured in the article as a young teenager) was a dear friend and colleague, and with our other Livermore colleagues we developed the laser physics and engineering basis for Shiva, Novette, Nova, Beamlet, and the NIF. Contrary to some comments on this blog, NIF has been very successful (as was also Nova) as a high energy/high power frequency converted (to the third harmonic of Nd:YLF) target shooter for inertial confinement fusion research. Yes, achieving ignition with ICF has been elusive to date, and maybe impossible. But it was a 35+ year effort that was worth every dime.

Way more money should have been spent on this, it still would not have worked but would be worth every dime.
Whether it's believing that Lindl/Omar's designs are going to ignite, or that LIFE is going to put energy on the grid in ten years, Livermore people are true believers, spouting whatever their management says in their tightly socially controlled environment. Have a problem with that? See staff relations.
"Yes, laser fusion people have a high opinion of themselves within their own community."
Yes we do !
At least you laser fusion types are more predictable than your codes. You always fail, miserably.
One major delusion that laser fusion people share is that they were "chosen" because of their great work. In reality, NIF was a jobs program to get the lab to agree to end nuclear testing. Fusion physicists, if we may call them that, will always be cranks on the fringe of science. This was well documented in a book by Charles Seife appropriately titled:
Sun in a Bottle: The Strange History of Fusion and the Science of Wishful Thinking
And POOF! Just like that, another frickin' NIF thread. Pavlov is rolling over in his grave.
Wish jealous New Mexico folks would start their own blog ! What great things have you guys/gals done recently ?
LANL scientists have consistently and accurately predicted NIF's failure for decades.

Like NIF?? HaHaHaHaHaHa!!!!
Although the big ICF lasers are remarkable feats of engineering, they have contributed nothing to society compared to the tiny little lasers in our DVD players.

Amazing! LANL scientists finally got something right. Congratulations. What have you been doing the rest of the time?

Ignoring people like you.
Amazing! LANL scientists finally got something right. Congratulations.
After the next contract change when Bechtel gets full control of LANL you will not have worry about any those LANL scientists ever again. You cool with it now, LLNL has won, LANL will be no more.
Mr. Bechtel can't figure out why every time he predicts something he is wrong. Imagine someone who works at a national laboratory who hates scientists. He probably thinks that if they all left, he'd still have a place to work. Self-destructive and delusional.

"Ignoring people like you."
This is the very reason LANL is failing. LANL scientists are doing nothing but populating this blog with their irrelevant babble.

Now that makes complete sense, you sir are a genius to have figured that out.
LANL scientists are doing nothing but populating this blog with their irrelevant babble.

A better class of babble. For LLNL, it's the fired technicians babbling their hatred of scientists.
