LLNS may have excluded the wrong people in last VSSOP? The exclusions were based on outdated job categories and related skills. ULM are now thinking that in the future, job categories and functional areas will have to be re-defined. The next VSSOP/ISP will be based on the new categories and functional areas. The questions I have are: 1) Why didnt they think of that before the transition. It seems like their style is “change things as you go”. Planning is out the window! 2) Who will give input on the new changes? The next RIF apparently is going to be more lucrative than the VSSOP. Depending on the length of employment, a RIFed person, not only gets their 1 week pay per year of service but also from 30 to 120 days notice, essentially 30 to 120 days pay. Please feel free to comment on the rumors or add new ones you actually heard.

"BTW, I am retired from LANL, where I worked for a time in X-Division, which designs nuclear weapons. I assure you, they can, and probably will, end civilization as we know it."
Retired? Hmmm, really, ya you are real knowledgeable Chrissy. Bitter ex lab employee
who could not cut it is more like it.

We have been through this time and time again. There is no LLNL, there is only LANL, what happens at LANL happens at LLNL, there is no LLNL without LANL.
The logic goes as thus. There was a completely out of control arrogant cowboy science culture at LANL for the past 70 years that needed to be severely punished...therefore LLNL was put up for bid, it went to a for profit LLC, a large number of people where laid off, the lab capabilities where greatly diminished, the nation suffered and LLNL blog was created so that you could complain about the situation at LLNL. You see how this works? You can say whatever you want on this blog but your fate lies in the hands of LANL and there would never have been a LLNL blog without LANL. If something goes wrong at LANL, real, made up, make believe, or nonexistence than LLNL will pay, and pay dearly. Perception is reality and the reality is that that LANL exists but LLNL does not. SUPER VUCA!

Seriously, pack up your bags and just leave. Set up your own blog site and take your arrogance, your crappy view of your sister lab, your rudeness as a guest to a host that took you in out kindness and leave us the hell alone - please.
is talking about NNSA and its incompetence; and immediately the old "we are better than you war" on both sides start:
LANL: ...but your fate lies in the hands of LANL and there would never have been a LLNL blog without LANL.
LLNL: take your arrogance, your crappy view of your sister lab....
No wonder, management and NNSA does not take us seriously; just listen to this and you feel like on the playground for 3 year old.
Competition is fine and healthy, but when it morphs into name calling, insults and
vitriol, it is only sad.
Disclaimer: I am working at LANL, but I have also worked at LLNL; in my opinion the vast majority of the people are dedicated, talented professionals, who are giving their best.
Yes of course.
"No wonder, management and NNSA does not take us seriously"
Do you seriously believe that management and NNSA does not take us seriously because of some cynical posts on this blog? NNSA does not even take itself seriously.
Go home.

Um, I am home. Where do you post from? Your desk at work? Tell you what: if you set yourself up a blog solely related to NIF, 90% of the LLNL people here will follow, and 99% of the LANL people won't. Voila!
Sadly the vast majority of their postings ( August 11, 2016 at 7:09 AM; August 11, 2016 at 8:57 PM(??); August 12, 2016 at 9:29 AM ) are the kind that made me characterize LANL members as I did.
As per NNSA... I take that organization very seriously - as an enemy to the entire weapons complex. It's apparent mission is through neglect, inane policy, and outright hostile regulation to destroy the ability for the U.S. to manufacture, maintain, or deploy nuclear weapons. The GAO report does nothing to change that outlook.
