SNL to Honeywell

This week marks the turning over of the keys for SNL from Lockheed to Honeywell. From all reports it has gone very well so far and NNSA is moving forward with transitions at other sites as well.

Has anyone seen any indications that there will be a delay in the final SNL hand over date?

I want to warn employees that Steve Girrens nickname at LANL was "Rambo". No prisoners Sandians. Good luck!

So LANL and LLNL ladies and gentlemen, tell us about Stephen Younger.

Very succinctly, Younger is brash, arrogant, and doesn't like is authority to be questioned. While both he and Girrens will behave like your friends at first, just wait a while before they begin to show their real feathers. DO NOT STEP IN THEIR WAY!

To find that Girrens is Sandia's Nuclear Weapon Chief Engineer is a joke. Girrens has NO experience or knowledge of nuclear weapons. OMG!

I do not know Steve Girrens as an Engineer but I did work with him on two task forces. He was reasonable, listened, and was very intelligent in diverse topics.

I did know Girrens as an engineer and as a Group Leader of the Engineering Analysis Group ESA-EA. He frequently just "crushed" people that he didn't like or that got in his way. Frankly, I personally did not like his style or demeanor as a "leader". Also, he had eye on women and a dirty mouth. Not a good "leader".

Girrens (Chief Engineer) pales in comparison to the likes of Steve Rottler or a Pat Sena, both very competent and knowlegable of Sandia nuclear weapon components. Steve Girrrens has no experience on nuclear weapons while he worked at LANL. In fact, his most recent role (PAD for Engineering) was outside the core nuclear weapon program at LANL. Girrens cannot spell B61-12 or W88 Alt 370 CHE Refresh. Very weak leader and engineer.

To 8:18 PM

Girrens was not PAD for Engineering at LANL.

1+ weeks into the transition, so far lots of fluffy language. It's clear Honeywell's game plan will be to lull the workforce into a false sense of security while they sharpen their favorite tool. It's unclear how many quarters they will wait to drop the axe--not many, considering the bid went uncontested.

I was on the 3rd floor of of the Sandia Administration Building where Younger resides. The floor is packed with large portraits of the new management. On day-one, the all photos of former administration where removed. I also picked up copy of the Sandia newsletter and low and behold a huge photograph of Younger on the front page.

It all true about Girrens. Girrens was not brought in for his minimal (non) credentials in the weapon program, but the clear the house of older senior workers and arrogant scientists. He'll have the same job Bret Knapp had when he came to LANL, CLEAR THE HOUSE!

Ok, AD for Engineering, BFD.

It will be entertaining to watch Burns and Seestrom vie for first trip under Younger's desk. What a bunch of sell outs.

Anyone who has interacted with them knows neither Burns nor Seestrom is all that bright. What sets them apart as good management material is their ruthlessness and absolute absence of morals or empathy.

Plutonium Shots on NIF.

Tri-Valley Cares needs to be on this if they aren't already. We need to make sure that NNSA and LLNL does not make good on promises to pursue such stupid ideas as doing Plutonium experiments on NIF. The stupidity arises from the fact that a huge population is placed at risk in the short and long term. Why do this kind of experiment in a heavily populated area? Only a moron would push that kind of imbecile area. Do it somewhere else in the god forsaken hills of Los Alamos. Why should the communities in the Bay Area be subjected to such increased risk just because the lab's NIF has failed twice and is trying the Hail Mary pass of doing an SNM experiment just to justify their existence? Those Laser EoS techniques and the people analyzing the raw data are all just BAD anyways. You know what comes next after they do the experiment. They'll figure out that they need larger samples. More risk for the local population. Stop this imbecilic pursuit. They wan...

Trump is to gut the labs.

The budget has a 20% decrease to DOE office of science, 20% cut to NIH. NASA also gets a cut. This will  have a huge negative effect on the lab. Crazy, juts crazy. He also wants to cut NEA and PBS, this may not seem like  a big deal but they get very little money and do great things.

LLNL un-diversity

Actual post from Dec. 15 from one of the streams. This is a real topic. As far as promoting women and minorities even if their qualifications are not as good as the white male scientists, I am all for it. We need diversity at the lab and if that is what it takes, so be it.  Quit your whining. Look around the lab, what do you see? White male geezers. How many African Americans do you see at the lab? Virtually none. LLNL is one of the MOST undiverse places you will see. Face it folks, LLNL is an institution of white male privilege and they don't want to give up their privileged positions. California, a state of majority Hispanics has the "crown jewel" LLNL nestled in the middle of it with very FEW Hispanics at all!
