Navy nuclear capabilities

Various news outlets are reporting that the Navy is looking to reestablish Tomahawk cruise missile nuclear capability for its attack submarines "to increase the capabilities of war planners for crisis containment," i.e. (to me) allow limited, nonstrategic nuclear strikes where deemed necessary. I thought the W-80's had been retired in 2010 or so. Is there a plan to bring them back? Are they still "inactive stockpile" or has dismantlement started? Anyone know how realistic and immediately likely this is?

You can look up the status of the W80 on the Internet in less than one minute.

It's sad that you didn't do even one minute of homework before submitting your post.

Hey Dude, it's the Millenium. Get on board old timer, or get left in the dust!

W80 status is "retired." There was talk of a LRSM version, but no (widespread) mention of a SLCM remake. What is the problem in asking if that has changed?

Wanting to denigrate people for not knowing what you in the business know? Classy of you.

No dust here, just honest curiosity. What is your problem with that?

Well, for one, asking random people on a blog to answer your question is foolish. You should know that there are many nuts who troll blogs.

The fact that you didn't do even one minute of homework doesn't speak very highly of you. You aren't being denigrated externally as much as you denigrate yourself for not putting in any effort at all.

If this level of laziness is typical of millennials, may God help them. By the way, you misspelled millennium.

Scooby deleted my answer to that, which was incisive but not derogatory. Typical Scooby response to a comment he just doesn't like. So, I'm out. Carry on, Scooby slaves. Have fun.

I have told you this before you need to pass the "not a bot" test before it can even be submitted to Scooby to approve. Again a dolphin is not a fish, a spider is not insect, a bat is not a bird, a kangaroo is a mammal. If you can remember these than you can pass the tests. In any case, I doubt you will be missed, but I am sure you will come back you always do.

I know how to get you to post. Bechtel is in charge in LANL, everyone knows this, do you agree?

Scooby,

I am ONE of the guys who has repeatedly showed that Bechtel is not now nor was Bechtel ever in charge of LANL. I doubt Mr. Minute-of-effort-is-too-much has ever corrected the nut who falsely claims that Bechtel is in charge.

Mr. etc etc here. I have, many times. He is oblivious. In any case, Bechtel is now out permanently at LANL so maybe he'll just go away. PS: where is the evidence of the effort-too-much crap? I want to hear that from you when you get wind that your TCP1 pension is threatened by the new contractor. Plenty of rumors already.

Plutonium Shots on NIF.

Tri-Valley Cares needs to be on this if they aren't already. We need to make sure that NNSA and LLNL does not make good on promises to pursue such stupid ideas as doing Plutonium experiments on NIF. The stupidity arises from the fact that a huge population is placed at risk in the short and long term. Why do this kind of experiment in a heavily populated area? Only a moron would push that kind of imbecile area. Do it somewhere else in the god forsaken hills of Los Alamos. Why should the communities in the Bay Area be subjected to such increased risk just because the lab's NIF has failed twice and is trying the Hail Mary pass of doing an SNM experiment just to justify their existence? Those Laser EoS techniques and the people analyzing the raw data are all just BAD anyways. You know what comes next after they do the experiment. They'll figure out that they need larger samples. More risk for the local population. Stop this imbecilic pursuit. They wan...

Trump is to gut the labs.

The budget has a 20% decrease to DOE office of science, 20% cut to NIH. NASA also gets a cut. This will  have a huge negative effect on the lab. Crazy, juts crazy. He also wants to cut NEA and PBS, this may not seem like  a big deal but they get very little money and do great things.

LLNL un-diversity

Actual post from Dec. 15 from one of the streams. This is a real topic. As far as promoting women and minorities even if their qualifications are not as good as the white male scientists, I am all for it. We need diversity at the lab and if that is what it takes, so be it.  Quit your whining. Look around the lab, what do you see? White male geezers. How many African Americans do you see at the lab? Virtually none. LLNL is one of the MOST undiverse places you will see. Face it folks, LLNL is an institution of white male privilege and they don't want to give up their privileged positions. California, a state of majority Hispanics has the "crown jewel" LLNL nestled in the middle of it with very FEW Hispanics at all!
