Now that LLNL has survived ten years past transition, and prospers, is it time to retire the tombstone on the masthead?

Prosper? That is your opinion. I will remove it only because it is outdated not because LLNL prospered. Do you have a suggestion for a replacement?

Yes it is true, LLNS corporate prospers $$$. It is also true that from 2007 to the present, taxpayers pay more and get less, and LLNS employees and retirees are worse off. Scooby, maybe you can replace the tombstone with this definition and symbol:

"The expression "to throw a curveball" essentially translate to introducing a significant deviation to a preceding concept."

Keep the tombstone. The Lab that I knew when I started in the 70's was not the same Lab prior to the contract change, but a great deal of that change was due to the stoppage of testing in the 90's. That death spiral was put into overdrive at the contract change. Bechtel brought NOTHING to the table but carpetbaggers. The place simply continued to lurch along after the contract changed. The Lab that I knew and was proud of died and you are now viewing a corpse.

Does this mean LLNL employees are content? Or they are secure in their future? Or that are resigned to their fate? Or they think that no speaking up or complaining can change anything?

I'm sure Scooby is not censoring LLNL comments.

Indeed, prosper is in the eye of the beholder. LLNL budget up roughly 50 percent in six or seven years is nothing to sneeze at. Staff expanding rapidly. Plenty of interesting work. Is it the Lab of the 1980s? No! Was it going to stay that lab without the management change, highly debatable even if the Cold War had stayed hot all these years.

Any change from the tombstone should reflect the blogs continued stated purpose. As far as "budget up roughly 50 percent", "interesting work" and such, that's Newsline material. Don't be pressured into changing narrative Scooby.

LANL was created to get us out of a hot war. LLNL was created to keep us ahead of our nuclear adversaries. What have they done for us lately? In the MidEast? Against Russia, China?

Tri-Valley Cares needs to be on this if they aren't already. We need to make sure that NNSA and LLNL does not make good on promises to pursue such stupid ideas as doing Plutonium experiments on NIF. The stupidity arises from the fact that a huge population is placed at risk in the short and long term. Why do this kind of experiment in a heavily populated area? Only a moron would push that kind of imbecile area. Do it somewhere else in the god forsaken hills of Los Alamos. Trump is to gut the labs.

The budget has a 20% decrease to DOE office of science, 20% cut to NIH. NASA also gets a cut. This will  have a huge negative effect on the lab. Crazy, juts crazy. He also wants to cut NEA and PBS, this may not seem like  a big deal but they get very little money and do great things.

LLNL un-diversity

Actual post from Dec. 15 from one of the streams. This is a real topic. As far as promoting women and minorities even if their qualifications are not as good as the white male scientists, I am all for it. We need diversity at the lab and if that is what it takes, so be it.  Quit your whining. Look around the lab, what do you see? White male geezers. How many African Americans do you see at the lab? Virtually none. LLNL is one of the MOST undiverse places you will see. Face it folks, LLNL is an institution of white male privilege and they don't want to give up their privileged positions. California, a state of majority Hispanics has the "crown jewel" LLNL nestled in the middle of it with very FEW Hispanics at all!
