Copper thief got probation

A former Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory worker was sentenced to five years probation and ordered to pay $40,000 for stealing more than 40 tons of copper from his employers over a three-year period.

The article stated he was "hindered by a bad back injury in 2009" and yet, he was able to move 43000 lbs of copper. He's allowed to resign rather than be fired. At least he wasn't running a porn web site on a government system.

A former LLNL employee with a security clearance steals over 100,000 dollars of Lab copper from 2011 to 2014, and the case just went to court in April of 2019? Did it take 5 years for the LLNS Security Organization to figure out they were missing 43,000 pounds of copper?

Or maybe the back injury was actually caused by moving 43,000 pounds of copper at LLNL. Shouldn't that qualify him for worker's comp?? I smell more business for his lawyer ahead.

You have a ~$100,000 worth of stolen copper, a court case 5 years after the thefts ended, the misdemeanor, probation, and giving the employee in question the opportunity to resign, don't add up. Were certain steps taken by the NNSA LFO and LLNS to lower or eliminate a DOE/NNSA infraction penalty or PER award reduction against LLNS for security or inventory negligence?

Tri-Valley Cares needs to be on this if they aren't already. We need to make sure that NNSA and LLNL does not make good on promises to pursue such stupid ideas as doing Plutonium experiments on NIF. Trump is to gut the labs.

The budget has a 20% decrease to DOE office of science, 20% cut to NIH. NASA also gets a cut. This will  have a huge negative effect on the lab. Crazy, juts crazy. He also wants to cut NEA and PBS, this may not seem like  a big deal but they get very little money and do great things.

LLNL un-diversity

Actual post from Dec. 15 from one of the streams. This is a real topic. As far as promoting women and minorities even if their qualifications are not as good as the white male scientists, I am all for it. We need diversity at the lab and if that is what it takes, so be it.  Quit your whining. Look around the lab, what do you see? White male geezers. How many African Americans do you see at the lab? Virtually none. LLNL is one of the MOST undiverse places you will see. Face it folks, LLNL is an institution of white male privilege and they don't want to give up their privileged positions. California, a state of majority Hispanics has the "crown jewel" LLNL nestled in the middle of it with very FEW Hispanics at all!
